Staff, what is your impression on the outlook of our current DT recruitment. I see M Adams is scoping out the entire landscape of college football, and it doesn't appear that Bama is of importance to him. With Paige in the fold, are there more likely shots for us to add another powerful DT in this class, or are we looking ahead to future classes?

Not staff but IMO its Adams or nothing at this point...
Next year we are in good shape with Josh Frazier.

And this guy. I think Shaw will be a good one.
Frazier fits our scheme absolutely perfectly and I want him on board as much as anyone so far. Good year for Arky to be a complete mess.
Yep I think Fraizer is a NT while Elisha is a DE.
Also add Landon Collins brother, Gerald Willis to the DE list

All these guys,Shaw,Frazier and Brown are '14 guys. We're losing Williams,Dial and Square along the DL next year and so far all we have is Darius Paige and maybe Demarcus Walker if he bulks up as replacement.Shouldn't the staff target more DL?
I was thinking about posting a topic similar to this one today. It seems to me that DT should be a big priority this year in recruiting given that we will only have Ivory and Lake next year assuming A Taylor sticks on the OL. Is Paige expected to be a true 3-4 DT because I thought he looked more like a DE for us? It just seems to me this is currently one of our biggest positions of need and one that we don't seem to be focused on. Am I missing something here?

We are good at DT as of right now. We do need to land a BIG NT in 2014, and add more depth at DE.
We lose - Dial, Square, Jesse
But we get back some good experience as well
NT - Ivory, Lake, Fanning
DE - Stinson, Bonds, Pagan, Pettway
I hope we can land - Andrew Brown, Elisha Shaw, Gerald Willis, and Josh Frazier
But what is crazy is VaTech (who is probably DeShawn Hands leader) has already got 2 DE's for 2014 committed
Any feedbackon how Tomlinson or Kirven have progressed?
Bonds? has he done anything in 3 yrs? Fanning and Lake - any meaningful contributions yet? have to get some good DLineman by signing day '13
No but they've looked good what we've seen them (maybe not Bonds - don't see him getting much action). We can't have a three deep of guys that have made meaningful contributions at the start of every year. Fanning will be good, real good. Our d-line is in a good spot as long as we address some depth needs in the '14 class which we're clearly doing.
I'd be OK with rotating these 9 guys next year:
DE - Stinson, Pettway, Thomlinson
NG - Lake, Ivory, Love or Ball
DE - Pagan, Fanning, Kirven
I thought dial redshirted last year and has one more year?
What about the Texas committ that is comming for a visit? He is from Texas and could play offrnsive tackle also. A'Shawn Robinson is the name.

Wasn't thinking about Ball and Love. That makes me feel a little better but I'm not sure either will be true a DT.
Don't we also lead for Hand next year?
LaMichael Fanning is just now scraping his potential....once the light comes on, the dude is gonna be a beast.

Really don't have too. Would be nice bit not critical. I think I'll trust CNS knows what he is doing.
We don't have true DTs. We have NT's. We have not had more than 2 legitimate NT's since Saban has been here on the roster at the same time. We had Cody and Chapman. Then Cody left and we had Chapman and Ivory. Gentry stepped in, in much the same way as we could use Love in the future. Next year we will have Ivory and Lake. We are pretty good at NT with two true NT's. Love could bring something else to the table in passing downs in much the same way Gentry did, hopefully.
Our coaching staff has not made the DL a priority this year b/c we landed a great class last year and a good class the year before that (who are making contributions as true soph and RS frosh). I believe the coaches that watch these guys every day in practice think we are going to be fine. If we needed DL. they would have went after DL.
The price of victory is high, but so are the rewards.
Yes Ivory is a true NT, but is he better than a serviceable NT? I don't think we know that yet.
