Running backs coach Curtis Luper will continue working on Auburn football until a new coach is hired. He joins at least assistant head coach Trooper Taylor in deciding to stay and help things together. Whether others will also stay is uncertain.
Athletics director Jay Jacobs said Sunday that assistants could remain if the chose or move on. Either way, they will be paid full salary until June.
So who wants some betting action on whether they are retained or not?

I don't. They can't get the kind of coach with the power to demand his own staff and I have always believed Trooper and Luper to be retained after the search is all said and done. They are dirty and will remain dirty to the bitter end. Jmo

What's the point of them being there if they can't recruit right now?? If they let these two clowns run the show, it will only further piss off the NCAA.. I'm all for them running that program further into the ground
The NCAA is laughing at this one.
Exactly. How do you think you ended up in this position. Retaining 2 coaches who are not allowed to recruit because their are under investigation by the NCAA lets me know exactly who is still running the show down there.
Isn't it the dead period where coaches can only recruit on-campus? Troop is banned from the road.
I could be mistaken though.
You're dead on.. It blows my mind that the cult members can't, or just refuse to, see this.. All this while they are trying to hire a coach.. Who in their right mind would step into this mess?? They are trolling themselves with all of the "big names" they keep bringing up
My best guess is (as those two are sure to be unhireable after all this) that auburn is allowing them to draw a paycheck for as long as possible. I mean lets face it, no one will touch these guys with all the smoke around them. Maybe the barn is showing a little honor among thieves.
I'm pretty sure this is the contact period, so lots of coaches should be on the road visiting high schools, etc. I agree with 92DT, these guys (Troop/Lupe) are in it for the long run. Almost seems like they are making Gene the fall guy in all of this, with not much changing beneath the surface...
with the barn keeping them under the roof...you know there is some fear of what they might say if they are thrown on the street...too concidental that the two that are held off the road are the two retained
I'm utterly baffled. It's INSANE to keep two coaches on your staff to recruit if they already know that they need to take new jobs next year. What're they going to say, "hey, I know i'm taking a job at Texas A&M and all, but you should totally go to Auburn instead. They are family, and are way snappier dressers than I am."
Unless they plan on keeping them, in which case good luck finding a coach who's going to deal with that.

I read yesterday on ESPN Insider that Montravius Adams spoke with Trooper after the firing and he said he would continue to speak with Trooper. Looks to me they are back on the road speaking with kids.
Trooper and luper will bail as soon as someone calls to hire them. This staying on BS is just PR. These guys are trying to make themselves look good cause they know their names are very tarnished because of the NCAA suspensions.
Maybe more like "fear of them spilling the beans" than it is "honor among thieves".
Chiz didn't hire these two most likely. Some one else suggested they be brought in.

Guess I should have said back out there talking to kids not on the road.
I don't understand the barn letting them stay. There has to be more to the story than we know, perhaps that the NCAA isn't done interviewing them and they have to stick around?
That is actually much more plausible. Thank you.
They can't spill the beans because the NCAA would slap them with a show cause, unless they are willing to cut them a deal, but I don't really see them coming out of anything unscathed.
I think a combination of several things led to this unbelievable move by the Barn:
1- Trying to keep them happy. (not to spill the beans…)
2- DESPERATELY trying to hold on to their recruits. These two were/are their best recruiters….which is SO TELLING!
3- Delusional and/or ignorant. The powers-at-be STILL do to understand what thugs they are, and are a true detriment to their program.
Can you imagine those two by themselves at the Barn football headquarters?? I wonder which one is in Chiz's old office…with his feet on the desk, etc…Thoughts of the movie, Home Alone 2. (in New York)
Hard decision for them. Especially given the fact that their market value has skyrocketed since news is out that this dynamic duo might have slightly committed recruiting violations.
