Good find, Chris. My thoughts exactly.
I think that is pretty cool and I agree with him!
BUT.... after reading the reasoning behind him giving the award to Saban it appears it is just a pretty good list of excuses on why Phil didn't have us winning it all this year from the start. He should have learned by now and just put us in the championship game from here out.
I covered this in my notebook.
He did the best coaching job. Won the Natty in a rebuilding year. You can't beat that. I don't know why the rest can't consider it.
Its understandable why he didn't and I agree with that thinking starting out. Its damn near impossible what he's actually pulling off. This year I'm saying #16 coming, but winning it 3 years in a row and 4 out of 5 has never been done before. I wouldn't blame anyone for voting us less than #1 pre-season. And actually I wish they would. How many teams started out #1 and finished that way? Any?
Well done, Mr. Phil Steele. Although I think the reasons why CNS hasn't won more COTY awards are more nefarious and based on envy and unsubstantiated hatred...

2008 may have beena better coaching job. Butit is close. This team had a lot more injuries.
Well, Alabama is breaking records...so let's be the first wire-to-wire NC at #1 in the BCS era...why not???
Winning the national championship during a "rebuilding year" deserves some recognition. Add to that the fact that it is the third national title in four years and it is truly remarkable.
