Thought it might be interesting to post a list of players that impressed yesterday with an emphasis on players you weren't really expecting. Mine:
Dillon Lee - After hearing that he had had a rough scrimmage or two, I was very pleased with what I saw yesterday (with my very untrained eyes). He made several strong open-field tackles and had a nice pass breakup as well. I was impressed with him, and i think he could be CJ's replacement when we're in nickel in 2014.
Alec Morris - Yeah, he had a bad throw that resulted in a pic by Landon Collins. But if you go back and watch the late 2nd quarter, he was very sharp and on-time with his short and intermediate throws. I thought he showed nice poise and command of the offense. He also that great down field strike to DeAndrew White.
Ryan Anderson - I was expecting to see some big plays from Ragland, and Ragland played fine I think, but Anderson is the one that really stuck out to me. Several times he got some penetration on running plays and made stops right around the LOS. He also had a nice pressure that led to Blake's first INT. I noticed that when Dillon Lee came in to take his place at ILB in nickel, he sometimes slid out to rush the passer like Hightower used to do. Really excited about his potential.
The state is the great fictitious entity by which every man believes he can live at the expense of every other. - Frédéric Bastiat
I was pleasantly surprised with both Ryan Anderson and Nick Perry. Cyrus Jones did not surprise me with his performance but I did think he was impressive.
Belue, Falkins, Cyrus Jones, Perry, Sunseri.
I also thought Landon Collins was outstanding. He ought to be in the rotation at safety this year.
OJ Howard among several others
Kenny Bell and DeAndrew White with their injuries
Who was the skinny white dude that caught the pass over the shoulder and covered pretty dang good. It was near the sideline. He got my attention with his concentration . It actually looked like a bunch of no names out there getting playing time.
The talent is undoubtably there. It is all over the field. If they can come togther this team will shock the hell out of people.

I think it was walk-on Parker Barrineau.
I think the only thing Alabama football can do that would be "shocking" is lose.
Going along w/ the OP... Ryan Anderson's name showed up a ton. Really liked how he plugged the hole inside and his pass rush later in the game. Was also impressed w/ OJ, Landon, and Denzel Devall.
Not impressive? Fanning.. i watched him exclusively at times. Regularly got stonewalled. Looks like he doesn't even try to get off blocks. He did get through once vs blake simms.. but to me, he didnt have a pulse.
Ryan Anderson was all over the field yesterday. He looked like a man motivated to play. He played hard every snap and also had alot of energy. Landon Collins shwed why he was the top safety coming out of high school last year. He hits with great pad level and he hustles to the ball. He also showed good ball skills when he undercut the wideout for the pick. Ed Stinson really did a good job. I think he will be drafted if he plays this way all season. He play with a high motor and made some plays by using his hands yesterday. Drake looked good also. He has the quickness and acceleration to be a big play threat and he runs with a purpose.
I thought Fanning looked pretty darn good yesterday. He was running plays down from behind and I seen him get off a couple of blocks. He needs to learn to use his hands instead of trying to over power people but he's very active. None of our DE are allowed to immediately rush up field so it can seem like they aren't getting any movement. He is ahead of where he was last year and looks very promising. Reps will make him much better. I was really suprised by the hustle he showed. He played great containment when Simms broke out of the pocket a few times. He actually was fast enough to chase him out of the field of play.

Not mentioned yet...
I must plug Mandell again, compared to 2011, he made tremendous strides.
Although you should expect it, Belue, he appears to taken his game up a notch as did HCD.
Brian Vogler...while I didn't see much of him blocking, he looked good on routes and I think he's going to provide us with a nice option at TE.
Ryan Kelly and Austin Shepherd, while they are not Barrett Jones and DJ Fluker, they did nothing yesterday to bring attention on themselves (like when H'tower blew up DJ a few springs ago).
Nobody has mentioned Drake yet, but I thought he ran really hard and will be a nice complement to who ever else end up being in there.

You're absolutely right about his hands... they are practically non-existent. If we are looking for him to be disruptive, he doesn't fit the bill, imo.
If the edge gets sealed when Drake gets the ball...Go ahead and move the chains. He hits the edge with authority.
Clinton-Dix is becoming better and better. Really Impressed with his improvement dating back to last year.

Drake is very fast. He's a guy that gets overlooked but he can take it to the house or at least get an explosive play at any time given the space to operate. Yeldon is a Adrian Peterson type back and Drake brings a different look. In the fall we'll have Derrick Henry to team up with them.
HCD will be all SEC this year. He's well on his way to being a star. I thought Landon Collins was really good yesterday. He's a great athlete that is very smooth and fluid but he can also drop the hammer. Our safety depth will be really good this year.
Mandell may be the best punter in the SEC this year. He was booming the punts yesterday. Griffith and Cade Foster were solid in their roles too.
Pagan looked very good too I thought. He's a beast. Tomlinson is a terrific athlete. He looked very good I thought running plays down. The more depth we have on the defensive line the better.
what scares the hell out of me is not belue, but geno or fulton or cyrus! we better hope like heck bessent and hopefully marlon come in ready to play next year or we are in real trouble at corner!
Lol I knew it wouldn't be long. Geno and Cyrus are going to be big time in 2014. Plus smith, Jackson, averett and hopefully cook will be on campus in June. Jackson can be special....
