1960 Les Paul
After seeing Arcade Fire at Bonnaroo I firmly believe they could command the spotlight at SB halftime.
"You've got some nerve coming here." T. Yorke
My Morning Jacket would destroy as well.
Since the latest trend has been older stars I'm gonna say KISS...
ZZ Top. I was a good friend of theirs when I lived in Houston in the early to mid 80's.
If they want to keep the theme of putting on a "show" and not just a band performance, I say get the Blue Man Group.
It's just like any other concert where there is elaborate staging, lighting, pyro, backup dancers, etc. It's a giant football stadium, you have to fill it up with something. Would you rather Madonna (or anyone else for that matter) just stood there singing in jeans and a t-shirt on a glorified folding table? For the guy who said KISS, I think that would be awesome. :)

KISS would own the Superbowl
Brang down the MOTHERSHIP!!!!
Now THAT would be a party...if George Clinton weren't like 500 lbs., and about what 75???
As for those who said Blue Man Group---I think if they were given enough time and budget, they would do something AMAZING and interactive and would fill the stadium with something never done before...like say interactive smart phone apps that let each seat have a part in the show... I can see it...
I wrote in Eric Clapton...No Brainer. Very few artists have been as relevant over a career, and he is still as cool as he was in the 70s

Twisted Sister or gtfo
I'm a big FF fan, but, sorry...there just isn't enough "visual" there to make a huge scene, which is what needs to happen...
Put one of those big two ended piano bar piano's and sit Billy Joel on one side and Elton john on the other. It would be some good music that everyone would be okay with and those two guys would rock it.
Foo Fighters would be great, though.
"Character" is doing the right thing when nobody is looking.
You got that right, I wasn't a big fan until I got some free tickets from a DJ friend of mine back in the 90s. It was their reunion tour with full make up and all. They seriously blew it away. Best live show I have saw in person.
ZZ Top...few bands put on as entertaianing of a performance. Especially in a dome, the laser light show would be awesome. .....I saw a naked cowgirl, she was floatin across the ceiling...
Holy Crap. Metallica with their pyrotechnics would be freaking awesome.
Also, if you could get John Paul Jones to commit to it. Led Zeppelin would kill it. They prove they still have it at O2 arena a couple of years back.
while i enjoy both, you gotta do bands that have had singles on the radio and appeal to the masses. sad, but true. or people will complain. basically you need a jukebox. actually muse would have been a perfect choice. they have peeked commercially as of late and put on bombastic shows. would have been a good time to ride that train. i remember seeing them back in 2000. only took the public a decade to figure it out :)
David Copperfield. And yea, Im serious.
Street performer on Bourbon Street that calls himself "Funny Tumbow One Man Band". The guy ROCKS by employing all appendages. Here's what he says on his website, "When I Was travering in US & Canada for looking for my future, then lot of people said me 'You're FUNNY.' When I w...as kid, my nick name was TOMBOW (mean's 'Dragon fly') So I decide to my One Man Band's name is. Future + Past = FUNNY TOMBOW"
I wrote in Lady Gaga (g)
Foo Fighters are not my favorite band, but they put on an incredible, high energy show. They also are at the top of their game and appeal to the masses more than any other hard rock band out now. Dave Grohl knows how to work the crowd for sure.
