Pollard played a heck of a game. Gotta give it up for him today.
I only got to watch the secon half but was very impressed with him relative to the rest of he season. Hope to see more of that.
He's been coming around the last 2 weeks. I still LOL at all the people who badmouthed him all season saying he isn't a 5 star, overrated, lacks talent, etc.
Can't expect a kid from small town Mississippi to come in and set the world on fire immediately.
He's getting better every game. That is why playing in the NIT, while not ideal, is important. It really helps these young players.
He'll be much more effective once he develops more strength in the paint.
Pollard looked very aggressive to the boards. If our big guys were as aggressive as he was they would be very good.
Gueye also deserves a little praise for his work in the first half. His 2nd half performance, all 2 minutes of it, were typical Gueye, but there was a stretch where he dominated for about 5 plays in a row and frustrated that Powell kid to death. If Gueye could gain some toughness and coordination after he gets an offensive rebound he would have had 6 points today. Instead, he's just too uncoordinated to do much of anything.
Back to Pollard. He and Obasahan were the 2 bright spots along with a confident Randolph. If those 2 can learn to play at this level consistently, Randolph learns to stop passing up wide open shots, and those 2 freshmen big men at least prove to be bodies we can use for fouls, our team next year should be a 25 win team (not counting postseason as we might win 25 this year thanks to that). This team has looked improved since that AU loss. We looked better in our losses to UF (twice), and those 2 road games (LSU & Ole Miss) than we did when we won all those games early in the SEC due to that cupcake schedule. We still need a little more on offense, but I'm beginning to feel optimistic about our roster.
I think what we saw tonight was how good this style can be when everybody stays focused and executes. This team looked like a sweet sixteen team tonight. If they learn how to keep that intensity up every game this will be a dangerous team. I still think we need to get more consistent w the three and we have to figure out a post presence. But this team has improved from last year. I know a lot of people haven't been happy w CAG but the program has went up.
