Can one of our experts lay out our projected defensive starters? TIA and +1 to you.
I'll go ahead and put this out there.
Whoever teh sayben wants
My guess as of today would be:
"Surround yourself with people who can't live without football"
"Recognize winners, they come in all forms"
"Have a plan for everything"
I think there will be 15-18 guys that see significant time this year.
Only changes I would make is listing Devall as a co starter at Jack and Landon Collins as a co starter with Vinnie at safety. As usual we will be very specialized so you will see a lot of different combinations. Keep an eye on safety this summer as Sunseri, Collins, Williams, and Perry are all fighting for the second safety spot and the dime back spot. Some pretty good players will be riding the pine this Fall.
Yea, I definitely expect those guys to play a lot. I was really just trying to narrow it down to the 11 "starters" I guess you could say. I think Darren Lake will also play a lot at nose, and Tomlinson will get significant time at end.
If healthy, I think Fulton starts over Geno. Geno will still get significant playing time.
Basically in Saban's defense, the "star" is a starting player. More than likely, Geno is the star with Fulton getting the nod at CB opposite Belue. And I think Devall will start at Jack. Dickson probably rotates in and out situationally. Going to be interesting to see if Allen/Williams can work their way into the pass-rushing mix.
Yeah, you guys pretty much nailed it. Right now I think they're looking at Devall to start, while Fulton and Smith will compete for the starting gig, although they're both going to be in the nickel package.
But, you never know what may happen when practices get going. We're a little over a month away from that.
18 days until Media Days and 64 until the season opener.

I think Lake will play more than Ivory at nose, also A Robinson could see playing time. This team is going to be really good on defense.

Imagine if that turd Eddie Williams were still on the team.
15 National Championships, 23 SEC Championships, NCAA Record 60 Postseason Bowl Appearances, NCAA Record 35 Bowl Victories
That talent is phenomenal!
Reuben Foster will play early. Bet on it. He's a stud.
Pretty cool that he's going with no. 2. He will make that famous on the defensive side.
You know Reuben will be doing special teams at first or early on anyway. I wouldn't be surprised if he is in some kind of rotation during the second half of the season. Yep, he is a player no doubt. JMO.
I've always wondered why Landon was not moved/trained for the star position in nickel. Last yr Vinnie played it, just seems a better fit to me given his skill set plus keeps VS at more his natural position.
we almost are on the same page but I would simply list Duvall as a starter.
slb- A.Hubbard, D.Duvall, R.Anderson, T.Williams*
de- E.Stinson, D.Tomlinson/A.Robinson*
nt- B.Ivory, D.Lake
de- J.Pagan, L.Fanning, D.Paige*/ K.Kirven
jlb- D.Duvall, X.Dickson, J.Allen*
mlb- T.DePriest, R.Ragland, R.Foster*
wlb- CJ Mosley, D.Lee, R.Foster, T.Patrick
star- G.Smith, E.Jackson*
rcb- Cy Jones/D.Belue
s- H.C-Dix, J.Williams/N.Perry
s- V.Sunseri, L.Collins
^^^^^^^^ Maybe so, but Ivory was on the field a lot in critical situations (LSU) last year, usually with Jesse also in there. He has improved a great deal each year.

We will play nickel more than 3-4 so I would drop a DE and add nickel back. That might put smith or sunseri in as starters.
Ivory is the starting nose and Vinnie is the starting strong safety. Lake and Collins will play their share but not over those two.
The secondary will be interesting to predict.
Beleu and Haha start in all formations.
Fulton and Geno compete for corner in base. Fulton will play corner and Smith star in nickle.
Sunseri and Collins compete for the other safety position.
Do we play another corner or safety in dime?
Where do Cyrus Jones, Nick Perry, and Jarrick Williams fit into the equation?
Will we rotate the secondary more than in the past?
