Got the chance to hear him and talk to him afterwards. Great guy, funny. He was speaking to mainly a crowd of us sports broadcast majors. He spoke mainly on how he got to where he is and gave advice on how to be successful in sports tv. He's a great representative of this university and loves Bama even though he is very good at being professional on tv. He talked for about 30 minutes and then had a Q&A session.
One question was about maintaining his composure while Holtz is being a homer. He said they have different roles, the producers basically ask Holtz to be like that because it draws in watchers and Holtz isn't going to sit there and be fake about it. Also said he wanted Holtz to come speak as well but he was too busy searching for Lennay Kakua.
Said Mark May is probably the best guy on sports television. Spoke very highly of him. Said he doesn't believe there are many guys on earth that know more about football than May does. He had great impersonations of Spurrier, Miles, and Saban.
Again I can't speak high enough of him. Especially considering I'm a Telecommunication and Films major with emphasis on Sports Info and my goal is to be on ESPN someday.

I heard him speak in 1999 at a church event in Birmingham and thought he was an excellent as well.
thanks for the information. +1 to you. RTR.
Great guy and wonderful representative of our university. It doesn't hurt he's from my hometown either
Good stuff, thanks for sharing.
Thanks for sharing. Also, I really like Mark May. Think it's funny when he says a negative comment or observation about Bama (very few and far between) and people say how bad he sucks on this board.
Thanks for posting.

Something else I found interesting was that he said they don't fake their opinions. On things like Final Verdict even if its a great topic, if Holtz and May have the same opinion on it they don't do it.
Nice first post and good luck on reaching your goals. +1

Thanks OP. Sounds like a very entertaining speech.
Thanks for sharing. Got a question though, I see where people are saying he is a good rep for the university. Is he a graduate from Alabama? TIA
Yes he graduated in 1988
Very interesting. Thanks for posting.
I like Mark May too and have always thought the same about him. You can tell he knows what he is talking about. Thanks for sharing.
Rece is an incredible speaker, I job shadowed him when I was a junior in high school on a Big Monday night and had the opportunity to watch him, Hubert Davis, and Digger Phelps, all were incredibly humble and are great motivators. I had the chance to speak with him after everyone cleared out today and I was shocked when he remembered me from 3 years ago. Great guy
He is a great guy. My mom went to bama with him and he remembered her from that long ago. And you went to Oak Mountain didn't you? I'm a a year or two younger than you and remember hearing that you were shadowing him.
