I just started laughing at how often someone would make a play and I'd say,"He's coming back next year, so is that guy, and that guy, oh dang so is that guy."
As an Alabama fan that never saw Alabama beat Auburn from the time I was in 9th grade till my Junior year of college, I truly understand what it feels like to be Alabama now. I have had older fans tell me about the 70's but I didn't experience it and I was to young to experience 92.
I loved Alabama because my dad loved alabama, his dad loved Alabama, but in my eyes Alabama was a folk legend. I just heard stories of greatness but my closest taste of the glory days was either the victory over Florida in the '99 SEC championship game, the Freddie Milions punt return to start 2000...that didn't end well, our near wins against Oklahama when they were highly ranked, or our win against Florida in '05 when Bama was prematurely back.
Either way, I get it now. I get being able to walk past a table of LSU fans and just smile. I get seeing Auburn fans out and just feeling sorry for them. I get that the only good thing to come out of Tennessee is I-65. I get laughing at Georgia when they say, "this is our year." I get that the gap between Alabama and the rest of College football is not so much as a gap but a Grand Canyon. I get it now, AND I'M LOVING EVERY MINUTE OF IT JERRY! It's so good to finally get it. Roll Tide Men!
I'm glad you are getting to experience it. As someone who remembers the 70's, it was frustrating to see a generation of fans get cheated.
I watched with an Oklahoma grad and an Oklahome State grad- I kept saying, "He's a true freshman" or "That's a resdhisrt freshman" so often, they asked if we had any seniors.
Imo i would love to play Okla, Ucla, or Fsu again.. we still owe them all one from th early 2000s and '07

Right there with you. We've avenged a lot of losses over the last few seasons. Va. Tech and Michigan stand out. But those 3 you mention are high on my revenge list. I was at that T-town ucla game. Ray Hudson almost broke lose if I remember correctly. Ugh.
great stuff, but gave ya the plus 1 for the gabardine reference - love it.
Completely agree with you!! Would love to hammer Oklahoma and Florida State.. Those loses sucked
I'm a little older than you but I feel the same way. Shula was hired my freshman year and was the coach during my undergrad years. We hired Saban the year I got my masters at Alabama and we have not looked back since. I would have loved to beat Auburn while I was a student but now that we have won 4 of 5 against them, I'm at peace with it.
I was only 7 during 1992 so I remember it but not in detail. This dynasty we are experiencing now is the best we have been in most of the younger Alabama fan's lifetimes. It is so nice to be envied by our rivals and other teams around the SEC. Right now, we are the pinnacle of college football. We have achieved dynasty status but "this is just the beginning." I don't think we are done yet.

I still have nightmares of the announcer in Bryant-Denny saying, "Deshaun Foster for the first down."
