Pretty good article.
My question is how long did PM know about this? He writes in this article and others that he knew a lot of it but if you read his preseason article he dismissed all of it and gave unrealistic hope to the masses.
Shows the level of sunshine pumping going on.
Yea my first thought as well
I'm sure he probably heard "rumblings" along the way but as the enduring voice of optimism that he is, he wasn't going to be the one to say anything like he did in this article until after they fired Chizik ... IMO.
Why would any kid with a choice choose to willingly step into this? Yeah I know about the Troopa and Loopa show but they get to spend time with the players. Surely they should see something just isn't right.
Wow. Thanks for posting. Great read. Hard to believe it got that bad.
Is it just me, or is that article a more detailed version of Scabs article from yesterday?
Not calling Flab McTwochins a plagiarist, but that article comes pretty close.
All Marshall did for two years was justify everything that went wrong.
Tons of arrest? irrelevant.
All the players smoke splice? Every college kid does.
Or my favorite... Academic progress report is terrible? The calculations are erroneous.
So I just don't know how to respond to that now. Notice he doesn't say a word about Trooper Taylor probably because he is potentially staying. Some of that is probably true now but he is still just telling them what they want to hear and now they want to vent.
I forget the game but anyone remember when Chizik was trying to light up one of the players and TT got in between them? I remember there was a lot of conversation about that then. Maybe he did the right thing but maybe it was a symptom if the problem.
That was the Mississippi State game I believe
It's more sinister. Auburn writers are nothing more than cheerleaders. Essentially, that article blamed EVERYTHING on Jim Chizik. It's Auburn's attempt to continue their normal spin. Of course, now that the "problem" is gone, they can become a "great" program again. As we all know, the problems there are much deeper than Jim.
The Auburn hacks will do anything to salvage a recruiting class or to make it appear as though that village on the plains really is lovely. Reality tells a different story.
Great points. He made excuses and said all the unrest going on was insignificant and happened everywhere. Now he writes an article saying this has been going on for 3 + years and that's the reason for the turmoil...one thing PM severely lacks is objectivity. If one of our mods sunshine pumped, rationalized, made excuses as much as he does I would very vocal about it.
All I could think of at the time was "can you imagine Saban allowing an assistant to do that to him?" I knew Jim had fully lost control at that point.
It's easy to get caught up in the schemes and football aspect of things, but it usually comes back to the basics of understanding and influencing people that determines a head coach's success or failure.
For someone in that position to have that level of ignorance in understanding basic human nature, as outlined in that article, is hard to fathom... but it happens all of the time.
Fortunately, we have a coach who not only understands this, but embraces and excels at that side of development.
