"You don't always get what you want, but you always get what you deserve"
When I worked in the lab (1997-98) I was working on a project evaluating human performance and injuries involving the 1996 Atlanta Olympics Sports. Specifically, I was analyzing pitcher arm angles that were most likely to result in elbow and shoulder injuries.
Back then we evaluated data via film as well as human subjects that came into the lab where we'd hook devices to whatever body parts we were evaluating to analyze range of motion, etc for maximum performance as well as injury prevention.
I think they've recently focused on researching the ideal shoe/cleat design to optimize performance and reduce injury in football players. At the time, I was planning to go into sports medicine and I received class credit for the research that I did under the direction of the Head Ortho, MD and the PhD that ran the lab.
Link to the component that aids athletes in improving sports performance.
I'm going back in the next 1.5-2 years to partake in the Masters (age 40+) Athlete evaluation and improvement program. Just something to keep me motivated and healthy.
