According to this report on athlete insurance programs from August 2010, top 10 draft pick projections could get insured through the NCAA’s program for as much as $5 million at a cost of between $20,000 and $30,000…whereas guys drafted in the 3rd round may get $500,000 in coverage. Alternatively, players could go through private insurance companies at rates as high as $10,000 for every $1 million of coverage.

It would make sense if policy claims like this weren't extremely hard to collect upon... a little like snake oil imo. but if it makes him sleep easier, maybe it's worth it.
Top NFL prospects do this every year, Peyton Manning had a $10 million policy over a decade ago.
