I still think we will be very good, but I have ytwo concerns-
First, our hitting. We pound mediocre pitchers, but so far,
really good pitchers have shut us down. We lost a ton of
hitting talent from last year's team and as yet, they have
not been replaced.
Second, along with talent, we lost some incredible leaders
last year and ALL our seniors are going to have to step u.
I still believe we will be fighting for the title at the end.
I have a theory.... Usually early in the season a team like BAMA plays in "Tournaments" that have lower level teams in it. Therefore their pitching isn't always top notch. So when they start facing good pitching later, the players have an adjustment period. The more games they play, the more really good pitchers you see and the more used to it they get.
I wondered how long it would take these posts to show up. This team will be fine. As has been said already, we are replacing 5 senior starters and that is never easy. We've faced 3 of the best SEC pitchers in a row and there is an adjustment. The girls made great adjustments as the game went on last night. Just got to get a couple more timely hits and we're in business. The great news is that our #2 pitcher looked like a #1 pitcher today against a very good team.
People watch our softball team prior to the College World Series?
People watch the Softball College World Series?
Don't know about the rest, but I'd much prefer a Bama softball game over baseball or most of the time basketball too.
The Dynasty is Here!
I don't think the purpose of the post was to say this team isn't going to be "fine." But "will be fine" is much different from "is fine."
I'm not saying the team has a problem. I do, however, feel that this team isn't as good (yet) as some of the teams of the past few years. It's hard to lose that many quality contributors and not see a downturn in production in some areas. I think they WILL eventually get to that level, and you see that with some of the performances, but other times, you see that this is very much a new team still developing.
Why is this thread getting downvoted? Because the OP pointed out some concerns, will be glad when the format gets changes and we all don't have to deal with this anymore, I mean it's gotten to where you can't ask a legit question or concern without getting downvoted.
The price of victory is high, but so are the rewards.
There are some concerns on this team catcher is a big concern defensively teams will run on us all year which puts more pressure on pitchers to avoid walks. Murphy should find the best catcher there is in the country and tell her she will start as a freshmen. Another concern is Jackie pitching and hitting not good right now teams are crowding the plate to take away the outside corner pitch getting some of our own medicine like we did to Oklahoma last year.Since the Florida game Haylie is not producing at all the better pitchers have shut her down she had chance to break open the last three games with hit and has not made it happen need production in the number two spot because Hawkins and Braud have been getting on base she has been a rally killer the last three game. And remember this league got tougher this year due to A&M,Missouri. Just some of my thoughts on concerns with this team.

Doesn't matter whether it is 12U or college it is all about the pitching and catching. A catcher who is not a threat to throw a anyone out leaves the whole team vulnerable, especially the pitcher. And a pitcher who doesn't have control and is not throwing strikes and giving up big plays leaves the team vulnerable.
We have the bats, they will come back, sometimes teams just have slumps. My team which has been hitting an average of in .655 in 5 tournaments in the fall hit just .235 this past weekend. Sometimes you can't even buy a hit! Very frustrating, but just part of the game.
I'll give you the catching concern, but we are replacing an all SEC catcher, who as a sophomore struggled at first when replacing a great catcher. There is a catcher commited, but the one I believe is the catcher of the future is coming off of shoulder surgery in the fall, but has looked much better since then. Jackie is fine. She doesn't like pitching in the cold. A lot of teams crowd the plate including Bama. This weekend Steph called lots of inside pitches and consistently calls inside pitches. Sunday when the weather was better Jackie pitched fantastic softball. As far as HM is concerned she was 3 for 4 on Sunday and was 1 for 3 against UF. She did not get a hit in 2 games and is suddenly having trouble? No one gets a hit in every single game so saying she has not produced at all is a big time stretch. I agree that Jackie has to hit better. She has to protect Hunt who is an RBI machine. You sound
like the team is on the ropes and that's not the case at all. You've completely ignored the fact that we seem to have a legit #2 this season which will give Jackie a break.
A little history lesson for you guys. The 2010 team started the SEC season 7-4 and then ripped off 21 straight wins to take the SEC title and also won the SEC tournament title too. That team was also replacing tons of starters and had a junior star pitcher as well as a couple of hot shot freshmen. Sound familiar? It should.
College softball is really fun to watch. It goes fast and the girls are really athletic.
