Still plenty of football left until off season coaching carousel changes, but with the way our defense is again tops in every relevent statistical category, it is inevitable that Coach Smart is again thrown into the top of every single vacant head coaching opening wish list. It is also inevitible that this is Dooley's last year and those on his staff are looking for new jobs. IF, big huge IF, he gets lured away, do you think Sal Sunseri has proven during his time as the DC with he Viles to be worthy for consideration to rejoin CNS's staff in the same position? I guess the real questions are: 1) what are your thoughts on Sal's performance as a DC and 2) who do you think is worthy enough to inherit such a dominating group? Again, strictly hypothetical, and the only reason why it's coming up in my head because as I watch the replay of last night and all the other games this season, I see CKS on the sidelines with so much poise and confidence running our D and all I can think about is how much I think he's so ready to be a head ball coach. As much as I wish he would stay until CNS hangs up his hat, CKS has got to be on every single AD's radar....thoughts?
I would be shocked if Smart is not a head coach somewhere next season. As for Sunseri, he did a great job here and Saban likes him. I'm not sure he is ready for that step after one season as a coordinator. His results this year have been poor but that is partly the system change too. I think we would welcome Sal back but not as defensive coordinator.
Sal will still be under contract at UT, his deal was guaranteed. If Kirby gets that job, he may elect to keep him on as DC, seeing as though they have worked together in the past.
No on Sal as the DC & someone told me Pruitt would be the next DC & that was part of the reason Sal left. I can't say that is 100% correct but this person normally is right about these things.
I think Saba n generally prefers young D coordinators doesn't he?
First the only way UcheaT hires KS is if they strike out on every other head coach they interview. IMO TN has the worst secondary personnel I've seen in the SEC and that includes the barn. CNS' 3-4 scheme requires solid DB play and the Viles DB's are atrocius. Sal's getting raked over the coals in Vile land but IMO most is undeserved.
No way Pruitt is our next DC...Kirby is not UT's top 3 choices...I could see Arkansas going after him and Ut would go after him if they strike out on their top choices.
Sal would love to come back as Bamas DC and be with his son for another 2 years. Sal would be a much better DC at Bama because our personel is already in place to run the 3-4.

Doesn't really matter who the DC is. Its still Sabans defense.

I'll echo what other folks are saying...
He's not there yet. Tennessee hasn't looked very good, but a lot of that's personnel- but not all of it. They just don't look well-coached at times.
Utlimately, though, Saban is the defensive coordinator. He may let his DC handle most of it during the games, but no matter who is there you will see Saban's continued influence all over the Bama D.
