Most may not like to hear this but it is the truth. Saban is lining up a qb showdown which means some kids will transfer out. Del Rio gives us what 6 qb's after aj leaves next year? You don't keep that many qb's on the roster. Just expect some backlash from it later.
Sims to RB or WR would be possible. That would give us 4 on scholarship after AJ is done.
Also, Sims versatility and Del Rio walking on, and easily being able to afford tuition thanks to NFL coach salaries, gives us nice flexibility.
what backlash?? Not saying there won't be qb's transferring out as this happens every season in college football. I have a walkon nephew playing QB at Georgia right now. I know that they have the same if not more than this many qb's including preferred walk ons. He was telling me the other day how if Murray stays next year, then other qb's, including the likely backup and preferred walk ons, probably will transfer out. No backlash, just disappointed backups and their families that it didn't work out for them. This is big boy football!

Well, if Ely got beat out for #2 by a guy that was a RB last year I would assume he may be the first to opt for playing time elsewhere. He seems to be more physically suited for a FCS program to me.
The biggest question to me is does this say anything about the outlook on Morris. I have high hopes for that kid and I would love to see him take the back up spot next year and get some mop up duty so he can take over the starting job in 14.
I'm just glad A.J is coming back for 1 more year. This will give all these qb's time to battle it out for the starting job in 2014.
I am not sure that Del Rio or the other two QBs in this class say a whole lot. Sims is a capable dual threat type guy who is playing QB bc Simms transferred to UVa. He is a hell of an athlete and nice weapon. But, he does not have a skill set suited for UA's system. Ely is a RS freshman and Morris is redshirting as a frosh. They have time to develop into serviceable contributors, whether it be as a starter or adding depth.
I believe our coaches were planning on taking two scholarship QBs this year from the get go. We wanted two last year but it did not pan out. So, that does not speak of any alterior motives by the coaches.
Del Rio is an unbelievable luxury at this point. A scholarship level recruit that wants to walkon at UA opposed to taking a scholly elsewhere. He adds depth and could possibly develop into a pleasant surprise. If a kid of that talent level offers you his services for free...you take it and run with it. I believe this likely came out of left field and has no correlation to other current or committed QBs at Bama.
Because it is Saban that's why. There wont be any fuss if mark Richt does it but if it happens under Saban there will be. Just saying be prepared that's all.
So you don't like him walking on? Geez man if he happens to beat out a 5th. string scholly QB and they transfer what has it hurt? Anytime a quality player decides to walk on it's a plus imo.
to the victor go the spoils...
I'd rather have him and not need him than need him and not have him.
I don't think it says anything about Morris. Most college coaches like to have at least one QB in each recruiting class. So next year on scholarship with legit shot at playing back up are: Ely (Not nearly as bad as most make him out to be), Morris, Bateman and now Del Rio. I would bet that if there is a top QB he can sign next year CNS will take another one in 2014.
Normal attrition will work its course and hopefully the cream will rise to the top.
Vince Lombardi was asked how it felt to have the best football team in the world. He replied, I don't know. We haven't played Alabama yet.
you need to put your big boy pants on too ! No issues from this....

When did I ever say I didn't like him walking on? Just stating what is going to happen.
Jesus Christ this board is full of effing morons.
