It's hard to imagine a good coach wanting to take that job. I know barners lust over Petrino, but would he want that job now? The AU job is 100xs worse that it was in 2004. This is a job that bases their success on beating Alabama, and Alabama is the best program in America.
I'm primarily concerned with Bama.
Which is why I'd love to see their staff gone.
The chances of them getting a staff that recruits as well as the current one is very low. A weak recruiting staff at AU gives us those 2-3 guys a year that we lose out on to them. While another staff might field a more competive Auburn team even with worse recruiting (which would be likely if they got Petrino), I'd trade that to get better talent to aid in future championship seasons (the AU game is secondary). A lot of our state's talent is currently going to waste on the plains, and I'd gladly see us make use of it.
