at the RB position? I've read some comments the last few days from some "respected posters" that seem to indicate that he is just gonna step right in and be an Ingram/Trent type back because of his time in the system and his purported ability to pick up the blitz. Sheet. He may very well be the next great Bama back but he will have to improve greatly on the skills some claim the other contenders at his position don't possess. I think some posters on here have a union mentality. Lacy won't start because of it being "his time". You can count on that. I'm surprised some don't realize how Saban runs this show by now. He better be prepared to earn it. Being injured is not in your best interest. Entitlement left the building some time ago.
A lot depends on how he recovers from his injury. Lacy is a good back but I'm not sure he is on the same level as Ingram and Trent. I think we will continue the running back by committee with Lacy, Hart, Yeldon, etc.
Yeldon is the next "Trent/Mark type" but don't be fooled cuz Lacy is a pretty dang good back.
I guess Shane thinks Yeldon will flip to Bama after he enrolls at Auburn. Brilliant. Sell those subscriptions, BOL.” - TIGER
Shoot i think EL will be a helluva starting back as long as the injury bug doesn't continue to bite him. His talent has never been in question.
Not a flame but what have you not seen him do to question his skills? If the toe is healed he will be the third straight UA RB to be invited to NYC. And with this OL he might get 2000 if he gets the carries that the last two did. I can't wait to watch him spin his way to NYC. TJ will have his carries about the same as TR his Fr year. Great to have this problem...RTR!

I agree with this
I don't know about any of them yet. I can't recall any "Look at how well EL picks up the blitz" threads on the boards the past couple of years. This seems to be the reasoning of many on why he will start and dominate this year. Ahmaad Galloway was the heir apparent at one time too.
I'm on the Fowler bandwagon.
Am I missing someone?
IMO, Lacy is a step below Trent and Mark. He's probably as fast as Mark IMO and while his jump cut isn't as good, his spin move is almost as good and he has good vision.
And honestly at the moment I believe Lacy is our most complete back, so it 'entitlement' (don't know where you got that from?) that will make him the starter, it's ability.
Lacy can run inside and out, pass block, and is a good receiver out of the backfield. Yeldon looks like he can be great but he needs to make sure he can pass block, probably put on some weight to be able to run between the tackles, and lower his pad level when he does.
Yeldon did great at A-Day, particularly in receiving and outside runs- but his inside runs were average.
IMO, it will be Lacy and Hart as the two leading rushers against Michigan. Fowler had the most recent surgery so he may get a few carries but I don't think he'll be 2nd in rushing. If Fowler can't go then Yeldon will probably get Fowler's share.
I'd have zero problem giving Dee the ball on 3rd and 2, just saying. Short but put together pretty well.

We will revisit this thread after Eddie gives his Heisman speech, Mr xxii.
And then again when he accepts the MVP of the NCG.
I'm gonna use the famous AI line "U talking bout Pass Blocking? Pass Blocking?" EL can pass protect. And AG blew out his knee so not even close...but he was very good before that. I love me some TR (no homo) but I don't get why everyone not just you is doubting what EL can do?
Didn't AG have 5 TDs in one game?
Not sure if serious...

Who gets the first non QB, Non WR carry for us this year, IYO?
No, I'm not sold... since he missed the entire spring I wanna see how he practices this fall---his whole career hinges on this, unfortunately. If he cannot grasp the starting position back, he's gonna be left in the dust, sadly...and I can't see him regaining it once that happens. Such is the competition in a top level, semi-pro football program, esp. in the SEC.

You're comparing Ahmaad Galloway to Eddie Lacy? With EL's talent and coaching...not a fair comparison. I appreciate the thought-provoking comments but I don't think there's a concern if EL's health remains in tact.
to me it's all about health with EL...I think everyone who has seen him run when healthy is confident in his abilities...
If EL is close to 100%, I think he gets the bulk of the carries
