LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The defending softball national champions will begin the 2013 campaign just how they ended 2012, as the number one team in the country. The National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) tabbed Alabama No. 1 in the USA Today/NFCA preseason poll, the organization announced Tuesday afternoon.
The defending national champion Crimson Tide (60-8) received 25 of 31 possible first-place votes to lead the way in the top spot, while the remainder of the top five remained unchanged from last year’s final ranking. National runner-up Oklahoma reaped five first-place tallies to sit second, California (58-7) was third after garnering a single first-place nod, Arizona State (53-11) rated fourth and Oregon (45-18) rounded out the top five squads.
Tennessee (52-14), Texas (47-13), Missouri (47-14), Georgia (45-17) and LSU (40-25) made up positions 6-10, respectively.
Syracuse (43-16) and Oregon State (36-23) were the only two teams to drop out of the poll from 2012 to 2013, but each were included among the squads listed among the receiving votes column.
The Pacific-12 and Southeastern Conference led the way with seven selections each, while the Big 12 Conference boasted three teams in the ratings. Other leagues placing teams in the listing were the BIG EAST and ACC (two each) as well as the Big Ten, Colonial Athletic Association, Big West and Sun Belt (one each).
The USA Today/NFCA Division I Top 25 Poll is voted on by 31 NCAA Division I head coaches, one representing each conference. Final 2012 records are shown, first-place votes are in parentheses.

Give the SEC about 3-4 more years and the title will be ours every year. It will be just a matter of which SEC team will win it!
Way to go girls!
Did we lose anyone from last years team?
Jen Fenton,CRB, the catcher, can't remember her name for some reason, Amanda Locke. We really are losing quite a few.
Still will be solid, they have recruited well. as long as Jackie is in the circle they will be fine.
Sure most here didnt know, my wife played CF on the first Softball team from Bama that played in world series.
I was thinking the same thing
Kendall Dawson, that is the catchers name.
Yeah if you guys think about our batting order from last year - we have lost these hitters from many of our games...
the 2, 3 or 4, and 4 or 5 spot depending on where Amanda hit (excluding the tournament where she struggled some before coming up HUGE) and Kendall lower in the order. That's still your main hitting spots to replace. The good news, we have some new girls coming in that have really nice potential - but still potential today, and of course some coming back from last year that will have new roles on this team.
We will have a good team - but it may take some time for it all to come together this year. LOL knowing our fans, some will be frustrated early (g)
ROLL Lady TIDE ROLL....
