In addition to the Lacey stuff, thought some of you might be interested in some other info I got today.
There was a somewhat-high-profile post player who announced he was leaving his current school a couple weeks ago. This is a kid who had us in his final 4 out of high school, and a name that was tossed around on here recently as a possible solution to our post issues. He is eligible to play immediately and was a 4-star in HS, and he has NCAA tourney experience.
I know his AAU coach and spoke to him briefly earlier. I asked where Player X was leaning, and what kind of interest he'd had. Mentioned to him that "I sure wish he'd consider 'Bama. We need skilled big men bad."
I was sort of surprised to hear his response. He said "Shoot, I don't even think they called him. He doesn't seem to be on their radar." So, I guess you can pretty much eliminate the idea of this guy coming.
The worst part is...he's getting interest from places like Duke and Kansas. Nothing ground-breaking. Just thought it was noteworthy that we aren't interested, but Grant's running the program his way. If he's not in our plans, hopefully we're happy with what we've got.
yea tarik black would def be an upgrade for us in the post.
Does not really surprise me. Grant was to busy recruiting a juco sg who shoots 15% from 3 who will find out at the div1 level all the guards are just going to play off him and force him to shoot bricks from the perimeter
SIGH. Only one more year of this crap. Only one more year.
Did you get approval from the BOL Basketball "experts" before posting? There has to be a logical explanation.
Key had 463 fg attempts last season. thirty-four of those were three point field goals. I think it is safe to assume that he doesn't settle for the three point shot much.
He better have a nba quality first step or he is going to not amount to much. I haven't seen him play, but without an outside jump shot he isn't going to accomplish much at the div1 level without a great, not good, but great first step.
So he hit 5 3's all season???? You think teams won't force him to shoot 3's in the SEC? I hope he continues to attack the rim but you know it's a different level now......
Yes, he hit 5 3's all season. He also had more free throw attempts than Lacey and Releford combined. He is going to be someone that other teams will have to account for. His coaches say he is an extremely athletic and fast guard who can be an elite defender. He may not be a sharp shooter, but he will help the team.
Hmmm and what did Gueye's juco coaches say about him? Part of a juco coaches job is to promote their players so that the will get div1 scholarships after their juco time is over. In plain English the juco coaches exaggerate
Sounds like Shula and how he quit recruiting mobile.
Could be wrong on that analogy but that's what it sounds like.
Of course they do. You have to take the coaches comments with a grain of salt. Make your own conclusion, but if you define Algie Key by saying he's a 15% 3 point shooter then i think you're off base. His game isn't shooting from the perimeter and i'm sure it wasn't his shooting that earned him a scholarship. He's an athlete who can get to the rim. His videos and stats are evidence.
