I have a good friend who works on the team and was recently hired full time as a manager. His info is reliable and I just thought I would share a few tidbits from a conversation we had the other day.
*** AJ is the QB. We knew this, but it appears to be as wide a gap as there was last spring. However, I asked who the position would go to if AJ were to go down with injury. He said Ely, without a doubt. He emphasized that Ely is not a long term solution at QB, but he would manage better than Sims if he needed to step in over an extended period of time.
*** Alec Morris has everything physically, but is lacking a bit mentally. Said he didn't have it up top like the last few successful starters.
*** Cooper Bateman has some work to do in the weight room. Said his current struggles are just symptomatic of being a rookie on the scene, but he clearly needs to do some work on strength and struggled throwing against the wind on the first day. However, my friend emphasized that Cooper is one of the nicer players he has ever met. He is courteous and respectful and has a good head on his shoulders.
*** Luke Del Rio is struggling to keep up physically. Not surprised, but in terms of the freshmen QBs, he is a step or two behind the other two.

Ely?? I would have to hear opinions from other people around the team before I were to belive that. Thanks for the info though.
Thanks for sharing, please keep the information coming if you can.
I've always heard/assumed the opposite:
If AJ was out for the short term, we'd put in Roy (or maybe Sims wildcat) as safe program manager.
But heaven forbid AJ get a real injury and looking at a season long change, you might get one of the younger more talented guys thrown out there
Is this info from a manager that fixes helmets and restocks tape and such? No attack here but I would like to qualify these opinions. They obviously have more weight coming from a position coach or coordinator.
I find it difficult to believe an A/B student is lacking mentally.

I know a lot of A/B students that have no sports IQ whatsoever ... I know a lot of C/D students with incredible sports IQ an instincts, just sayin. And seeing the QB has arguably the biggest workload mentally on the team ... Alec just might not have a good grasp on everything yet ... not to say it wont come becuz I would really like to see what he can do for us in the future.
He did come from the highest level of Texas HS football, so he surely gets it. Again, an opinion from a manager?
Dude, the OP brought info to the board. Be thankful. +1 to you OP.
I guess I've been served for asking a question. This must be a BS troll thread.
It's not an IQ thing with Alec. It just comes down to governing a gunslinger mentality and grasping the Saban Way and being a better decision maker.
Hurry find something to attack when the info doesn't line up with your personal uninformed opinion.
Say friend, I'm not attacking anything just asking a question. I could really care less what anyone thinks, I'm a Bama fan regardless and whatever happens at any of the positions was meant to be. I'm simply not someone who muddles through life not qualifying messages so I can make my own opinions. I would like to think people ask questions to vett information, otherwise you'll wake up one day with leaders you didn't want and it will be too late. Roll Tide!
This is opposite of what has been reported on here by "insiders" , who said that NUSS loved Alec Morris and he was doing really well. I would like to hear from someone on the inside who knows a coach before i think Morris doesn't have it upstairs..
why ? it was merely his friends opinion.
I don't believe any of the "insider" stuff with regard to QB's. Every fan seems to have their favorites. I remember someone guaranteeing that AJ was going to prove to be a much poorer QB than Greg McElroy. I don't worry too much about future starters. Saban always has a plan.
That said, I know it is fun to speculate.
I will say this about QB's. I think this old Bear Bryant quote about football players in general applies to QB's today: "The best time to play a freshman is when he's a sophomore."
I think everyone should remember that every kid on the roster, from AJ to a new freshman like Falkins, is a work in progress. If Morris is behind Ely today, fine. Lets see where they are in August. Or, 2016.

AM is my personal favorite but AJ taught me a lesson that told I don't know squat about ID'ing a QB. I wasn't an AJ fan until the LSU NC game last year. But I've been an AM fan since his senior year in HS. I might be wrong with him too.
