55-12 and 2 National titles in 5 years after turning this program completely around. No other Bama Coach since Coach Bryant can lay claim to this!!! RTR
He didn't attack his legacy. He made a crack about the fact that he is a great coach at a school that is also great. Hardly attacking his legacy.
I loved the comment. He's dead right. We are the program that was ranked #3 in the BCS with Mike Shula, #2 in the country with Bill Curry,#2 with Ray Perkins, SEC champs with Mike Dubose National Champs with Gene Stallings who had a losing record everywhere else he's coached.
Alabama is a great program when it has an average coach. But Alabama is a beast of a program when it has a Nick Saban or PBR..
My opinion is that he did attack his legacy. He said, "If he wants to be the greatest coach or one of the greatest coaches in college football, to me, he has to go somewhere besides Alabama and win". In CSS' crazy opinion, CNS is not one of the greatest coaches in college football because he's not at a place like USCe. For Christ's sake he's bemoaning the fact that he's winning at Bama by saying that its so easy a caveman could it or something. My question to CSS is, why would a great coach go to a crap school? Only one reason..to feed his ego with a challenge that might or might not ever be accomplished.

“Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, today is a gift of God, which is why we call it the present.”
Sounds like a back-handed compliment to me.
Any audio of this by chance?
Edit: my bad, I meant to quote the OP

Im sorry, but Spurrior is just so pissed he'll never win a NC because he has to go through Saban to get there. Sorry Spurrior, it takes a great coach to win NCs(PLURAL) anywhere, look at Shula. LoL
Spurrior is a joke.

"We have an opponent in this state that we work every day, 365 days a year, to dominate."
Sounds to me like "I double dog dare Nick to leave Alabama and the SEC and prove he can win" (secretly thinking: so I can win more). As he hopes Saban would...wishful thinking.
Thank goodness, FINALLY we have confirmation from the "old balls coach" that we have arrived. I have not been able to sleep for years awaiting this moment. (G)
I'm not offended by the comment but it was a little back-handed IMO. You're lying to yourself if it was 1 big compliment to Saban. It may be a compliment to Bama, but not Saban.
How 'bout this question: If Spurrier were hired instead of Saban, would we have won a national title by now (07-12)?? Maybe??? But probably not... Probably not because that means that he would have had to beat LSU this year and beat Florida in 09. I don't think he would have done either.
Make no mistake CSS can't say anything comlementary without it being backhanded. He just can't do it. He has one of those guys that will insult you in a positive way. What he said there was a shot at CNS. CSS cannot stand that his legacy at UF will pale in comparison to the one that CNS will have when he leaves UA.
Just for ole spurrier - You can't spell Citrus without USC!
Don't know why everyone gets upset at this stuff. They all know each other and are part of the same tight "Coaching Fraternity". BTW - Saban and Cal have a nice "gig" going!!
Make no mistake, CSS knew exactly what he was doing and he and Saban will aggravate each other about it in Destin. They will laugh and hoot and holler about what the media is saying about it and Saban will get him back. Football is not life or death. This isn't N.Korea launching a nuke. They have fun with this stuff and fans take it too serious. There is a bunch of mutual respect among coaches. Especially among those that can actually coach. Behind closed doors CSS probably aggravates Saban about Chiz and Saban brags on Dabo.

What Spurrier has done at South Carolina is nothing more than a miracle when you look deeper at it. Anyone who calls Spurrier overrated or anything less than one of the best in the country doesn't know their head from their ass.

Not a miracle, but people who view his QB struggles in Columbia out of context as a failure probably are too young to understand how fundamentally advantaged UF is.
I'd call it a miracle. South Carolina's recruiting base was cannibalized for years by Clemson, Tennessee, Georgia, and others before Spurrier. He has built their recruiting base back from nothing and has made them a 9 to 11 win team year in and out. Something we have never seen in our lifetime. Holtz couldn't do it, Sparky Woods didn't even sniff it. Spurrier's coaching job at USCar is his best despite what his haters say about him. His job at Duke was probably his 2nd best effort.
Agree 100%. Steve is a character and has sharp wit. He keeps football interesting in the off-season.
If Chizic had said that **** ya'll would be laughing at how stupid it was or having a fit. **** Spurrier. He benefited from a talent rich Florida and Miami getting knocked down from the NCAA. He's washed up. I know he may have been joking but he's always taking jabs at other schools and can't even get the most talented team he's had in SC to beat Auburn at home.
Anyone can't win at Alabama. I'm sorry. Bama just isn't winning Steve. Bama is dominating their opponent. Dubose didn't do that. Shula didn't do that and I will also say Stallings had the program no where close to where Saban has it now.
It's a new Bama that we haven't seen in over 30 years. That's the deal imo. Not just winning but DOMINATION! Can't wait to play that a hole again.
