Thanks Mal! Full buyout 2 million per year till 2015 then 500k per year till 2019. Is there a worse basketball coach in America making 2 mill a year. Guess that's why grant is so pompous because he doesn't care what anyone thinks. It's been said that he is not fan friendly or media friendly. I'm shocked the media hasn't turned on him. When you've won a national championship then maybe, but what has grant ever done. Watching our offense is like getting a root canal done, its slow and painful.
Not a Grant fan...

Dude, our basketball team will never amount to the standards of Kentucky. Once you realize that, it'll be easier to accept the fact.

are you really taking a shot at mal? with the success our athletic department has had in the last few years, mal could come to your house, drop a deuce in your yard and you should smile and say "thank you for all you've done for alabama and my yard."
Not trying to get to Kentucky level, just want a better more consistent product.
really a Bama fan?...really...um
One doesn't have to reach "the standards of Kentucky" to not lose to Mercer. GMAB- anyone that thinks the state of our basketball program right now is acceptable is compromising
yes but alabama is the 2nd winniest team in sec history not cointing arkansas cause they havent been in sec since it was started.
Like I've said before, the downfall of our basketball program is due to the history of our football program. It's football and then everything else, and you house know it; you just don't want to admit it.
Bullshit. We have the resources and the recruiting area to be a top ten basketball program. I am tired of people settling for average in our men's basketball program. If Mississippi State can make the Final Four there is no reason we can't on a regular basis.
This is what I was talking about the other day Mac. "final 4 on a regular basis" Now, having said that I think we could BUILD a program that could be a sweet 16 on a regular basis but it would take more than just a coaching change. As far as this comment though I can only respond with the words of verne before he got senile.
"There are few truths in an uncertain world, but here's one; this aint Kentucky!" at least not yet!
I don't think Alabama would let a measly 500K/yr buyout stop them from firing him after 2015. Not to mention the fact that someone, somewhere, would probably hire him and reduce that 500K per year.
Now as far as firing him before 2015, the $2M/yr might be a hindrance.
I'm not sure that C.M. Newton would agree. He won or tied for three consecutive SEC championships and came very close to winning a national championship in 1976 during a stretch when we had a pretty darn good football team.
fadedimage = Mrs. Grant
Why not? Because it's the way it's always been? BS, I'm tired of that excuse. Mal is a great AD and he's doing the best he can, but something is holding us back from being good at every sport we play, and excuses aren't accomplishing anything. Try telling Florida that you can't be good at a lot of sports, 'cause they sure know how to make it work. I could name tons of others, but I'll stick with a fellow SEC school.
We've got the budget and we've got the AD. All we need to do now is change the perception.
I don't think Fadedimage was saying it's impossible for it to happen...just that it won't happen. For whatever reasons, there are just some things that aren't a priority to the powers that be around Alabama athletics. Wendell Hudson is a prime example. His four year SEC record was 12-50 coming into this year. And seriously...does anyone think there was actually a search when the job opened last time? Sure, we could find the money to pay a salary higher than Calipari's. Would we? Of course not.

Why does Grant have the high salary and huge buyout when he has NEVER proven that he can do anything but recruit above average (and I'm starting to wonder about that)? He can't friggin' coach worth a damn. I could coach 5th grade boys better than he handles college talent.
Anyone who thinks our Basketball program should be on the same level as our Football program is unrealistic. We win in football so certain fans start believing our Basketball program should do the same. I know Grant has been here a while but this is basketball. You do not get 25 scholly's to hand out every year. You only get a couple and if you miss on one or two then that years crop is lost. I know patience is not our fan bases strong point, but we need it with our basketball program.
