Ok, I am 32. Always taken up for the students. Always wished I was sitting over there still because of how fun it used to be when I was at UA.
BUT... Last night was a joke. I was in the opposite end zone, and us old folks were louder and stayed the entire game! So their old plea of "if not for us the stadium wouldnt be loud" is BS these days. As a matter of fact, the only places I saw empty seats at all were in the corner of the end zone, upper and lower level.. and i felt the rest of the stadium was as loud or louder than the student section.
Its all good if thats how they wanna roll. But next year, they should have seats taken from them. Expand the lower bowl seating for them if need be, but DO NOT give them any upper deck seats..

totally agree, VV...it's NOT working, whatever they're doing, and there is NO excuse for it when there are SO many people who want seats and who will come and support the team. The empty area accounts for about 10% of the stadium (roughly), and last night it should've been overflowing, but it wasn't, just as it hasn't been for the rest of the year (and before)...
They are out of excuses. CNS is fed up, too and things will change since he is noticing how pathetic it not only APPEARS to recruits, but to NATIONAL television and the noise level as well.

Yeah, I am aggravated at the student section. They do like to compare their noise level versus the rest of the stadium, but that is pointless because student sections are the loudest sections at all stadiums across the country. Our student section is pathetic when compared to other premier universities. It is a shame.

Been discussed to a bloody pulp, but students cram into the lower bowl like sardines and the folks that show up late get pushed to the top, if the seats were set up like the rest of the stadium the student section would be "full" every game, that being said the "select" folks that show up at kickoff that have a seat waiting for them and leave at the half or 3rd quater to continue the binge piss me off, I've sat in the non student section and obviously the student section when I went to school and unless you've sat over there you cant fully gauge how big of a difference it is, that being said we share the same sentiment with students thinking they did their part staying 3/4 of the game.

This stupid block seating for the frats has got to go. All those douches would rather leave the game at halftime to party instead of cheering on arguably the greatest Bama team of all-time against a top 11 opponent. It was just flat out embarrassing to see one entire side of the stadium virtually empty for all of the second half last night.
Again, I could tell they packed the lower level early. But even they were gone at halftime. My point is the Upper Deck HAS to be taken from them. Let them continue packing the lower bowl.
And like I said I have always preferred sitting in the student section. I was in N last night, it was loud, no one ever sit down, no one ever left and it was just as good as the SS.

Leave? Hell, they didn't even bother to show up last night. Those seats NEVER got taken up in the upper lowers and the upper deck Southeast corner. Not even close.
Leaving early and never arriving are separate issues. Having empty seats on national tv is a disgrace. If the students can't pack the upper deck, regardless of reason why, they need to cut seats and give them to alums who want season tickets. It's a total embarrassment.
Its obvious if all the students who want to come to the game, can get in, cram the lower bowl, and not need the upper deck, then they DO NOT NEED the upper level...
The most embarrassing area was not fraternity block seating, it was the top 12 rows of the upper deck that never filled and were empty the entire game. 12 rows, 26 seats each row, 4 sections.......that's anywhere between 1,000 and 1,500 EMPTY SEATS. That flat out has to be addressed.
Are you by chance the Brian Henry from Chatom?
Yet again speaking on something you dont know. The upper deck is reserved for all students not greeks. It has nothing to do with block seating. Yes the greeks left early but those upper deck seats are for everyone so don't come on here and act like the greeks are the only ones that don't fill up
we have the best coach in football, arguably the best times at UA ever. and I believe the most beautiful stadium in the nation.................when it is full !!!! there is no excuse for those seats not being filled the whole game. how many seats are we talking about? anyone know? the upper deck was mostly empty the entire game. i was embarrased. something has got to change!!!!!!
No, just an old sub name
I am a student and I don't feel that it is fair for you to call out the whole student section. It is only the greek section that was emptying out. I was there screaming my butt off, lost my voice, and always stay for Rammer Jammer. Never sat down during the game. If you look at pictures you will notice that behind the field goal there are empty spots, but on the other side of the band, it is still completely packed.

jesus you guys want to cry anymore? Get a life.
Again, the top 10 rows of the upper deck never had a single person in them the entire game. Those are normal student seating not block seating.
Blaming the Greeks for leaving early is a legitimate discussion, but it is a totally separate discussion from having 1,000 seats that are empty the entire game.
Yea, some of us are alums that were there when we were awful, shows up every game and have been waiting to buy season tickets for years, so when we see 1,200 seats empty for a game against a Top 10 SEC game that we'd be happy to shell out good money for but can't it irritates us.
This is with 13:06 to go in the fourth, right after Elys TD pass.
There are WAY more students than just the greeks with their reserved seats gone. So dont give that BS excuse students.. Very few of you were here.
Wow, that picture is a disgrace
I see what you are saying, but my argument was that not all students can be blamed for it being that empty. If it was up to me it would be completely packed and everybody would be going nuts. I got in the stadium at 5:00 last night and stayed until we were done with Rammer Jammer. The problem with taking away those seats from students is that there will be games that if they don't have that upper section available to students, there will be an uproar of not having enough seats. I know most games this isn't much of an issue, but last year against LSU I lined up at the gates 5 hours before kickoff and barely got a seat in the upper deck. You could say that they could come up with a system where certain games that section would be open to students, and certain games it would be open for regular admission, but so many things can change throughout the season, there is no way to know how demand for a ticket could change.
I bet there is a ZERO percent chance that the students are "awarded" the upper deck next year. And I dont want to hear the bitching because you dont have tickets to the game. I have paid my tuition at Alabama. I have purchased tickets and stayed the entire game for over 20 years. Im sorry. But this just pisses me off.
It's the Greeks, they pay for blocks too sit in, they need to fix it cause I noticed it last night on tv, it wasn't that anemic when I was sitting in te student section during Shulas era, with 30+K students enrolled I have a feeling we can figure out a better plan than this one.
Well, you can't allow 1,200 empty seats for 7/8 games every year so students can all show up for the Auburn or LSU game.
Look I understand what you are saying, obviously it's not everyone, but the point is there are lots of Alabama alums who were there during the miserable Shula era who have no shot at getting season tickets and it drives them nuts to see this stuff, especially with the current state of the program vs. what we were forced to watch for 4 years.
Check the picture. Not just the greeks. Greeks arent in the upper deck. Or the corner of the end zone either..
I took these last night just to give everyone a shot at what the start of the 2nd half looked like. I was very dissapointed
