Today at work I got bored and I began to think back on the 2010 team. As I thought about the team I began to realized just how talented that team was, and how vertitually everyone on that team was or will be drafted to the pros, except 3 on offense and I think about 2 on defense. That means 17-18 players on that team were NFL worthy, and not only but half of that team was or will be drafted in the 1st round. It just blew my mind the potential that team had. Just thought I'd share, and here are the people that got drafted (may have made a few mistakes)
OC-Vlachos (not drafted)
TE-Preston Dial (not drafted)
WR-Maze (not drafted)
OLB-Jarrell Harris?(not drafted)

That really is amazing. Our starting SAM in 2010 was Chavis Williams though I believe.
It's criminal that team lost 3 games but inexperience in certain spots and injuries, as well as playing some tough teams, was the difference. Everyone saw what that team was capable of once the young guys got experienced and everyone (except Barron) was healthy. 49-7 over an 11 win Michigan State.
If they all had the experience it could have been one of the best CFB teams ever imo.
Count up how many were first time starters... At least 12... Then subtract 4 or 5 due to nagging injuries for much of the season.
But that team could've won a NC if it had been healthy.
Just imagine if we were looking at 4 in a row!
I don't know if it was more a lack of experience or a lack of leadership that got us that year. I think experience got us at SC, a combination of the two at LSU, and lack of leadership to stop the bleeding when AU made their comeback. No way in hell AU makes that comeback if Javy or Ro was in that defensive huddle.
Even crazier is 3 of 4 undrafted players were signed to NFL teams. To my knowledge Dial was not.
Those bye weeks teams had over us was just as criminal.
Actually, he was briefly picked up by the Lions. Never made it through training camp.
Lack of leadership killed that team. Had nothing to do with some of the things this years team faces. That team had more than enough exp. to mask a few young players. It's been noted that the 2010 team felt entitled & didn't put the work in needed to be a repeat champion.
New Member of The 247 Crew!
This, injuries and the 3 game stretch against Arkie, UF and USC was brutal.
I really disagree with this.
8 players of defense had never started a game. 3 or 4 of them were freshmen or sophs. Dareus was suspended and not healthy for 85% of the year. Upshaw had an ankle 80% of the season. Barron was coming off an injury that kept him out of spring drills...
On offense, MI was banged up in the knee. Trent was a soph and also got knicked up a lot. Fluker was a first-time starter and slow on the edge. Warmack was a first time starter. P Dial got much better as the season went on, but he was a "role player" at best. And even Julio tended to get knicked up in games at times.
We lost the LSU game bc Trent got hurt and we couldnt run. We lost the AU game bc we left 17points on the board in the first half with 2 fumbles inside their 10 and a missed chip-shot field goal. Not to mention GMAC and Julio were knocked out of the game late, when we easily couldve put a drive together to score 3 to win.
We got the injury bug bad that year, and we may have lacked focus at times. But you give me that team at 100% all year and they dont lose. Period.
I think the bowl game proved just how dominant we were when healthy.
Statistically, Law of Averages comes into play here:
-Championship in 2009 and players probably not as hungry in 2010
-Plethora of teams with BYEs before playing us in 2010.......
We've been in contention for the Championship 3 out of 4 years. Folks that have played sports for several years/seasons know that sometimes you dont win the championship when you have the most talent as chemistry, luck, injuries and want all impact the season outcome.

You get out of it what you put into it!
Disagree if you want. But several players have commented on "what" happened that season. Coach Saban even said they felt entitlement after the fact as well. You don't think your top dlineman going to a party & getting suspended shows a lack of leadership? Yes we were nicked up. But we didn't lose multiple players for the entire season like this years team has. & how has this team responded vs. how the 2010 team responded to injuries? Tells me this team is more focused. & not letting it be an excuse.

And let me rephrase part of that. YES, they didnt have the focus or drive we do this year, last year or especailly in 2009. But I think if they had been 100% healthy it wouldnt have mattered. Also, playing guys at 75% can sometimes be worse than having guys out for the season. It becomes a distraction as well when guys cant go 100%.
I guess my I just feel like if all of those guys had been healthy, we wouldve won regardless.
And of course Saban said they lacked focus. Do you ever think he would blame a game on injuries? NEVER. We could lose 60 players and it would still be about focus and execution.
That is your opinion. But that team was "off" more so than others have been. & it had plenty of talent to not lose 3 games. When you blow a 24pt. lead to your rival at home. When you could have ruined their perfect season. Says a lot about that teams inability to finish games imho.
8 teams with Bye weeks. Even years are also our bad road years (@Ark, @USC, @UT, @LSU, @MSU, @Ole Miss (though they're a joke half the time)).
