Sometimes I get upset and think we are entitled to a better basketball team than we have currently. Tonight I'm watching ESPN and started thinking good grief, if I'm upset with Bama basketball what must Texas fans think about their athletic department?
Them being down in now way makes it OK for us to not be great at basketball but it does give some perspective on how hard it can be to rise up as a program in any of the major college sports. Texas has everything. There is no excuse for them to not be top 20 in everything and they should be top 10 in most years.
How pissed off are those fans these days? Are they such homers that they don't realize that are not a top tier Big 12 program in basketball or football anymore?
Mack Brown is by all accounts an amazing guy. His high school coach was the football coach at my high school and Coach Pitts always spoke highly of both of the Brown boys. (side note Coach Pitts gave me a paddling on his last day on the job. Took me out of our final to paddle me during his last class before retirement. Funny enough he probably doesn't remember me but I will remember that beating forever. He let out some frustration that day.)
With that being said I don't understand the level of laziness that must prevail in their athletic dept to accept being average when you have at your finger tips what they have.
Think about this, Kansas St has been more successful in both football and basketball the last 2 years than Texas. Probably the last 3 years but I can't remember which year Snyder came out of retirement. Oh and Snyder is ancient. He is 12 years older than Mack Brown. Yet, he is dominating Mack.
Sorry for rambling through this post. Little stream of consciousness here but I just can't get over how far their entire athletic department has fallen.

The fact that the K State fans were chanting we own Texas would have me asking for some firings....I guess that would be like falling below Mississippi State for 3 years as an athletic department and going to Starkville to hear them chant we own Bama...I just don't see that happening or that it would be tolerated....
They truly ONLY care about the green.

100% correct. DeLoss Dodds only sees green.
The price of victory is high, but so are the rewards.
I've always expected more from the basketball team (at least post-wimp years). I thought Coach Grant would be the one & he still may be but it drives me crazy that we seem to be stuck in mediocrity in basketball. I'm not saying we have to win a title every year but give me a top 25 team/tournament team each year & ill be happy. I'll support them no matter what but I wish I knew what keeps us from getting to that next level.
Texas problem has always been its own arrogance imo. No matter how bad things are. Those aholes always seem to think it's still better than it seems. Sounds a lot like the school down the road to me.

I'd like a stronger basket ball team...hell. I'd like a stronger every team. But I hesitate to ever use the phrase "we are entitled....", That phrase leads to failure.
