Just wanted to thank the Longhorns as they're reportedly about to offer a 4 yr contract extension to Mack Brown.....effectively keeping that wood block underneath the gas pedal of what COULD be the most dominant program in America if they ever hired the right guy.
I couldn't agree more. Although, I doubt he'll be there for the remainder of it. I think this is more so he can tell recruits he's there for the long haul.
Crazy as it may sound I've heard rumblings that petrino is who they favor to replace mack in a couple years.
Texas on its A-game is not the equal of Bama under Saban. Texas HS talent is DRAMATICALLY overrated.

They went all in with Garett Gilbert with no back up plan. Most horn fans out here thinks it set the program back 3 yrs.
Petrino wants that job NOW...he'll be the next in line.

Living out here and dealing with Tx HS football, i would say calling it dramatically overrated is a bit off. I do think that it does fall behind Florida and Cali. There is some unreal talent in this state but the college coaching in this State is very poor from a developement standpoint (besides Coach Patterson at TCU).
This^^^^^. Texas has talent they just haven't been doing a very good job of developing it over the last few years. I hope they keep Mack forever!!!!!!!
Booby is sittin on G waiting on O to get out of Arkansas. He would do some damage at texas. Especially when they go to the Pac 12teen. BP just looks like he's ready to blow a gasket at Arkansas.
texas could be the next oklahoma
I can't even imagine what CNS would do with just the in-state talent in Texas--it would be scary!
The right coach at Texas wouldnt allow state lines to limit where he went for recruits, and that HS talent appears to be overrated because it goes to a program with no earthly idea how to develop them.
I disagree. Texas HS talent is legit. However, bringing Texas HS talent into a culture of entitlement and telling them how good they are limits the potential of that talent, which brings us back to the OP's post.
For the record, Texas fans are some of the least objective college football fans on the planet. I'd like to think of many of them as smart people, but college football conversations with them can be downright painful.
This times 1000. Texans evaluating texans = inflated estimation of prospects.
If they are offering that much in a contract extension, it will have so many out clauses for the University that it won't matter. If they pull another 8-5, he will be gone.

No matter how good your talent in state is you have to develop the talent. Also if you want an elite program you have to wait for the big fish on signing day. You have to be willing to go coast to coast and snag some of the elite players.

Texas fans are in a bubble. They are killing the Big 12. Or 10..9..8..7. Get the point.
