This is not going to be a joke tournament. There are going to be some solid teams in it. There are about 10 small league teams that won their league but lost in the conference tournament that will get the auto bid. Also, you could put the 8-12 seeds in the NCAA and the 1-3 seeds of the NIT on a neutral court and the game would be a tossup. The only difference is the NCAA teams built a better resume throughout the season. I hope we go out and try to win this thing.
Also, my hope for the future is that we progress to the point that Miami and New Mexico have. They were in the NIT with us a couple of years ago with a bunch of young guys that are now upperclassmen. That New Mexico team we beat that year is basically the same group of guys they have now. Several of those Miami guys were on that team as well.
NIT should have some pretty big names.
Maryland, Alabama, Kentucky, Tennessee, Arkansas, BYU, Virginia.
Then the small mid-majors who really were 1 win away from being a potential cinderella in the NCAA's: SF Austin, Mid Tennessee State, Stony Brook, and Weber State.
I think you'll see a lot of the NIT teams from this year make the dance next year. Wouldn't be surprised to see a few Sweet Sixteen teams in this NIT. Bama, Maryland, and Kentucky..
Don't be surprised if UK gets a bid to the big dance. I am like Travis, I will believe they have been left out when I see it.
watch out for the NIT
How the hell does this post get a downvote? Man this forum is so childish.
As far as Kentucky, I just don't see them getting after Vandy waxed them. They have to take into account UK's not a tournament team without Noel. Not to mention they didn't really impress before the Noel injury. They're one and done which means their following won't have that much of an impact. Not to mention the first four games in Dayton sell out regardless.
I think we have a better chance to get in than Kentucky does. Palm actually has us as the 2nd team out today. I wouldn't be shocked in the least if we did make it with the wild stuff the committee has done over the years. They love that SOS stuff and our numbers are a heck of a lot better there than a lot of these other bubble teams. Plus our 0-6 vs the top 50 should have an asterik beside it because we didn't get a single home opportunity while the others that did pick up a win or two were at home. We have a solid 8 wins vs the teams 51-100.
Never a good thing to be in the NIT. Particularly in your fourth year and have not won an NCAA game yet. JMHO
The NIT is better than sitting at home.
That's debatable. Depends upon the state of your program. If you are in your fourth year and made the big tournament the year before, don't know how much better playing in a crappy tournament is than beating the bushes recruiting and trying to find some help for next year.
Also, if you had a really young team I could see the benefit as well. We only have one first year guy in our program.
Again, just my opinion. I am sure most would disagree. Just a frustrated fan.
I will tell you one thing, every time I see someone bitch about getting down voted in hit them with another down vote. Grow some balls people. Not everyone will like your stupid post... Deal with it. Downvotes don't mean anything anyway. If your existence hinges on whether your post says +2 or - 1 then I feel sorry for you
Out of out 8 that we have left to play 6 are freshmen and sophomores and Moussa might as well be. They need these games.
Sorry, but if Kentucky had our resume', they'd be in the big dance. No Questions asked.
They deserve the NIT just like we do. Let's try to build off of this and do what we need to do next year!
