UCLA and UW are on the upswing IMHO .....
Well if it wasn't for Stanford beating Oregon we wouldn't be in the NC game so they sure as hell have my respect. I am happy they are getting some rewards for what they did this year.
But did you mean Switzerland? Just wondering.
I don't know what some of you are crying about. That was a big win for their program. Let them enjoy it. I like Stanford, how they play the game, how they didn't go away from their game plan and how they eventually wore down Wisconsin who appeared to have the "bigger" team.
If they turn the page, start thumping the PAC12, and regularly win the Rose Bowl or end up in the NC picture then I would think Herbie's statement is right on point.
I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree. There statement this year was beating Oregon and winning the PAC12, not beating an overmatched big 10 foe.
isn't Shaw a Stanford alum? Not sure he would be willing to leave Stanford.
These former Big-10 and Pac-12 guys like to think that whoever wins the Rose Bowl, regardless of situation, is the king of college football. They really do believe that the Rose Bowl is THE bowl game.

Lol, It was a weak attempt at neutrality humor.

Stanford is an impressive team to do what they did this year without Andrew Luck at QB. It's a shame they didn't play the Hogan kid sooner or they would have likely beaten Notre Dame. They still almost won without him as the game went into overtime and they got hosed on a call where the Stanford running back scored. Shaw is a terrific coach, no doubt about it. Stanford is also a physical team that plays with an attitude. Their defense is rugged up front. Granted Wisconsin isn't the greatest team out there and they just lost their head coach to another job. Stepfan Taylor is a tough running back too. Reminds me somewhat of Eddie Lacy. I really like Stanford's program and the way they mix their academics in with it.
Keep in mind they are making this run with academic restrictions most schools don't have to deal with. There are a lot of players in the SEC who are awesome students, academic all Americans, etc. but the truth is the vast majority of SEC players could not come close to getting into Stanford.
Makes it even more impressive IMO. I thought losing a once a generation type QB like Luck would bring them back to mediocrity but they are still rolling. Shaw is red hot right now they will have a hard time keeping him
