I know how soccer is seen by many on this board.. so DV/hate away if you must, but I'm pretty pumped for it myself. Games like these are what it's all about. We've never won a qualifier in Mexico, chance to make history. It doesn't get any better than trying to take away the ONE thing in life that Mexicans are better than us at. (aside from drug production I guess)
It's on ESPN at 9:15- I'm going to the Bama-Maryland game then getting back in time for kickoff. Anyone else gonna be watching?
I will be watching for sure
What sport are we even talking about?
i'll be watching.
pretty sure the last meeting, a friendly, is the first time we've ever won in mexico regardless of if it's a qualifier or not.
lol Jos Mit I figured you'd make your obligatory appearance in this thread. I'm flattered (g)
Yea Harbinater, the last game was our first ever win there but qualifiers as I'm sure you know are a whole different animal. There weren't even 30,000 in attendance last time, tonight is a sellout meaning 104,000+ Mexicans throwing batteries and bags of piss.. I wish I felt a little more confident, we've had such poor luck with injuries in the last month. Still hoping we can pull some kind of result out of there
I'd be watching if it didn't come on so late.
I'll watch a little bit of it. I highly, highly doubt we win though. I get a little pumped for games like this but most of the time we fall flat on our faces which really doesn't help soccer in this country.
Sometimes I wish we would put all our best athletes on the soccer field and just dominate the rest of the world in its most popular sport. Then I remember soccer pretty much blows and football and basketball are infinitely better so I'm glad our guys play that.
oh i know it's a lot bigger deal. you just mentioned the no-win qualifier stat, and i wanted to reiterate its not just qualifiers we've struggled with, its any game.
mexico is in a pinch with the last 2 results, and maybe we can play off that. but we're still short some players, most notably howard and donovan.
We're young, inexperienced and still trying to find ourselves. I'll be happy with a point. Hope I'm wrong.
You might want to forget about Donovan, not sure he will return from his "break" from the national team. It would be an amazing feat to win this game. I will be pumped for a draw.
I wish we would give younger guys like Brek Shea a shot.
Jermaine Jones is out this game, I know he isn't the best player, but gives our team some toughness at times.
Yea you're right Mexico's last 2 games definitely work in our favor- they'll be feeling immense pressure to win, and win convincingly. If we can withstand the first 20/30 minutes and not give up a goal, I think we'll be able to frustrate them. Hopefully we can nick a goal off a counter or set piece and see what happens
Also, the injuries that are most worrisome to me are Fabian Johnson and Timmy Chandler- our back line terrifies me and and we desperately could use the speed/quickness they offer to slow down Mexico's wingers. We're looking mighty vulnerable in defense
Yes sir.....I will be watching it as well. At least flipping to make sure I'm keeping up. Could be a BIG win for us tonight. A much needed win IMHO...Not end all but a would be nice all
USA USA USA
p.s. We owe them one back after losing to Mexico in the WBC in pool play.
It's time to get Graham Zusi in the lineup. He's also tough as nails and talented as hell.
They've done in not too long ago, so they should be confident.
I'll be watching! USA! USA! USA!
donovan is supposed to be join back with the galaxy next week, and i'm hoping he makes his return to usmnt for the june qualifiers.
he's getting up there in age and he's got to know this is his last world cup chance most likely.
but i agree with the younger guys, especially shea. he's been in some friendlies and done really well i thought. i think he set up the goal against mexico for the win actually.
I hope to watch the second half, but I don't like my chances. Basketball game ends around 8:30, interviews until 9:30 because Grant does a number of things before entering the media room, 90 minutes to write (give or take), by the time I get anywhere it'll be 11:30.
Hope we win, though.

Chips and salsa, please. Oh, and cheese dip. With jalapenos.
Really...? I haven't watched him much in the MLS but he's never really shown me anything on the National stage? I'll keep an eye on him tonight.
Unless someone decides to start scoring some goals tonight (cough, cough, ...Altidore or Gomez), I'll be hopeful to get out of Azteca with a point. Dempsey can't do it by himself.
What I REALLY hope we see is for us to keep a lead or tie deep into the first half and watch the Mexican fans turn on their team. It's equivalent to what it would feel like to watch Auburn boo their football team. Could be fun!
Yea, Shea did set up the goal against Mexico last time. Hope he plays tonight. Have they announced the lineup yet?
Sorry I'm in a meeting didn't read the op close enough. I'll be watching might even break out the monte alban. Hopefully it will be a win-win kind of night.

what are the chances of snow?
I will be watching!
They usually announce the lineups about an hour before kickoff. Also, heads up for everyone- the game is on ESPN right after ours, same channel and practically as soon as ours is over, so no excuse not to watch (g)
