I think the key will be the early stages.
If we stifle them early, they're fans will turn on them.
If we can get a raucous Azteca crowd upset at the home team, it could galvanize our defense.
How to do that...I have no idea. Don't really want to park the bus, but I don't see us with enough talent to really control the ball in the offensive third.
Go Nats, and Eff Mexico!!
You are so right just playing even late into the game could swing that home crowed in are favor.A win would be awesome.
Donovan is being a tad bit selfish and to me and I say screw him. He's barely played for klinsman and this when we need to start building some chemistry on our team in case we even qualify. Our lineups have been a revolving door bc of injuries, trying different combos with younger guys etc. meanwhile he's on vacation bc he's a little burned out of carrying the national team??? That's an honor that Dempsey has and will gladly take. I'd tell tell him to take a hike if just expects to walk back into the starting lineup. If he busts his ass and puts in the work, then maybe.
I know him being on the field is probably our best chance of winning but sometimes you have to make a stand.
i agree, it's punkass of him to just up and walk away for a few months right before qualifying heats up, when we really need him the most.
but if he does get back into the game next week and gets back into playing shape and earns his way back, like you said (and like he's said he'll do), then he can get back by june for our next few qualifiers, which are probably more important than this game, imo.
Here's a good glimpse of what our boys will be dealing with tonight, for the uninitiated. It's gonna be crazy.
A monumental World Cup qualifier.
I definitely will be watching this game tonight. Going to watch Alabama beat Maryland and then get home to see our boys get a victory. Beating those guys in Azteca is past due. It is going to happen tonight.
I know he scored that crucial goal in the last world cup and has been clutch in meaningful games, but Donovan has NEVER showed up when we play strong opposition. Whenever we play a South American/European team, he becomes a ghost in the midfield. He's overrated, and it shows when he tried to play over in Europe. Yes, I know he had a brief above-average stint with Everton, but he's had many chances to prove himself at the highest level and has failed.
Michael Bradley and Dempsey have been consistently solid in Europe. Altidore isn't too shabby either over there, but his skill/finishing ability hasn't spilled over to the USMNT yet.
On a side note, Donovan couldn't be a nicer guy. I ran into him in Chicago (when England came to town) and he was awesome. Came over to me when he saw my US Soccer shirt and shot it for a little while. Class act. Dude is TINY.
Tuned-in and watching the pre-game show, now.
Rossi still pisses me off. Then he got left off the Italy squad during the last cup. :)
Pepitos on the strip has an autographed photo of Campos on their wall.
Time for more 'Mericun beer and Phuck Mexico
lol did they just say they're having trouble filling up the Azteca and need to lower the prices?
