Yep. Starting to look like he has no leg to stand on.

I love reading threads like this. This week has provided a lot of info on how juries think.
Not a lawyer, but I feel his defense attorney could make a strong case that he is unfit to stand trial.
You stole my joke
Yes, the initial reports were that it was an accident, but someone's still dead either way so it's still sad. We'll see what happens.

Congratulations on not even reading the thing you're citing. Every single part of that article says "assault weapon". Assault weapon does not mean gun.
For the person saying he should have ran away. He probably couldnt find his legs. I would have shot more times myself
I've also been to South Africa twice...most recently in 1997...and it is an absolutely beautiful country. I would absolutely love to go back. Kruger Park is amazing. Imagine driving through a national park and seeing elephants, giraffes, lions, etc. That having been said...
1. Restaurants all had burglar bars on the doors, locked, and would buzz you in before you could enter. Armed guard in the parking lot.
2. I asked the front desk at the hotel where the nearest ATM was. The clerk told me, and then insisted upon sending one of the guard's with me. In broad daylight.
This was in Joburg.
They don't charge people with murder if it was an "accident" (at least not typically).
You should really change the title of this thread.
The problem is that "assault rifle" is such an arbitrary and sensationalistic term that is merely a pawn to further certain agendas.
won't last in prison, being on his knees all the time
People who think he thought it was an intruder need to reseach the securiy that he had as well as the community security. They lived in an exclusive area that was extremly secure plus his house had state of the art security. I think this will end up as a murder commited while in a raging argument, which they had a history of.
With it being Valentine's Day and all, this might be a case of cold feet.

Seems kind of odd to wake up and just open fire, especially when you know someone might be coming home.
I hope that it was an accident, but I doubt it. Too bad if it wasn't, he was a great stroy!
I have a friend in Pretoria. She was carjacked once and her home broken into another time. Guard dogs are frequently poisoned so homes can be robbed later. Africa can be a cruel place and crime is out of hand. If this was in Europe or the US, I would never understand such a shooting, but considering how bad it is there, I can understand the paranoia and quickness to shoot first and ask questions later.
South Africa is like a giant Detroit. The only good thing about the place are the nature preserves.
They? As in here in the USA? This is Africa. They can charge you with anything regardless of your guilt or innocence.

In honor of Valentine's Day: Roses are Red, Violets are Glorious, don't try and sneak up on Oscar Pistorius
I can't even get an upvote-thingy for this?!?
"Cold feet"? Yeah, I'll say -- fiberglass feet, even!
Do I have to spell it out for you people? Need an emoticon?
What exactly is that supposed to mean? "This is Africa." If we were speaking about one of the third world countries at the interior, then you might have a point. But South Africa is completely different. Civilized, even. They even use guns instead of spears.
Besides, my original point to Chris was that it was glaringly obvious from all news reports at the time that the chances of it being an accident were very, very slim. Even moreso today as further information has come out.
