True. But the players like road whites, so I'm game.
while it MAY look cool, please no
+ 1 however I thought they were gonna unveil silver ones w/ a shiny metallic luster.
I SO WISH they would.
All the old school die-hards would have an aneurism though lol
I know you are not serious.
But is it bad of me to hope we would wear one of these hideous combat unis, just to see the carnage and meltdown that would ensue on BOL???
Someone needs to explain to me the fascination some people have with white helmets. Alabama may have the most iconic look in college football -- it's like the Yankees with pinstripes. Why would anyone want to mess with that?
(Seriously - it's something I really don't understand)
Christopher Walsh covers Alabama football for BamaOnline, 247Sports, and is the author of 18 books.
Agree 100%. Makes no sense to me.
damn straight. dont mess with perfection
This was the media guide cover in 1984.
Personally, I would like to see them worn, but only when we play against scrub teams. I don't want us to break them out against a good opponent like Notre Dame. I also won't cry if we don't ever use them again either though.
If I remember correctly they were only worn when the opponent had similar helmet colors. We wore them so we would better be able to identify who our guys were.

It doesn't look good with the crimson jersey to me...at all.
Chris - this is just me I certainly can't speak for anyone else...and I DO NOT want us to mess with our Crimson Helmet....It is the best in all of football.
Saying that, our history does include wearing the white helmet with crimson letters and strip. It would be something completely different if we had never worn this. For me, its a thing where I would not mind if we did it say once every two years or so. I would NOT want to do it often or more than every now and then because we do have imho the best helmet in all of football. For me, wearing the the reverse of that once in a blue moon is not going to take away from that at all. And of course the kids today LOVE these types of changes every now and then. It's fairly simple to me...
1. Its history so we can't argue that.
2. This one is jmho - I think it would look good for a road game wearing all white (I also do not like it with our home jersey) every once in a while or for something like - THIS GAME? That's all. And one last note again just imho - wearing a white helmet isn't going to make us win or lose a game. If we never do it I'm just fine with that too but as I've said I simply wouldn't mind once in a while.

AMEN.......PLEASE EDIT THE WHITE HELMET BS OUT SO WE DON'T HAVE TO GET THIS FOR WEEKS ON WEEKS...
What I don't understand is why people think/act like it's blasphemy if we even discuss white helmets, even though throughout history we have worn the white helmets. It would be cool, though I think the crimson helmet looks even better in the white uni's...

Regarding LSU's white jerseys at home:
They've been wearing them since 1958, their first title year with Billy Cannon (I believe). In 1982, the NCAA made a rule that enforced all teams wear colored home jerseys and whites only on road. Then in 1995, Mike Archer petitioned the NCAA to allow them their white jerseys be worm again at home and won, so except for the 13 year gap, they've always worn white jerseys.
coach Saban installed the exception for Purple jerseys in 2000. They would wear purple in a home non-conference game, once a year, but not in big games. So you never see their purple jersey game because it's usually against such a lousy opponent that it's not televised.
Personally, I love that they do this. Their unis are one of my favorites.

Small addendum to this: The home team decides what color to wear. Around 2000, Florida opted to wear white at home and force LSU into the purple jerseys on a couple particularly hot days. The visiting team just wears their home uniforms for simplicity, but they could theoretically wear any uniform that the teams and SEC deem contrasting enough - so we could probably wear crimson and LSU purple if they so chose, but we couldn't wear home uniforms at the same time as Arkansas.
Chris you've hung around Bama fans for what 10 years or so now? You should know by know that we've got to have something to complain about.
Well, at least Bryant Denny would instantly become louder next year.
