12/31/1973 (Sugar Bowl) Alabama 23 - Notre Dame 24
1979 (1978 Season Finale) Sugar Bowl where Bama beat Penn St 14-7. I'd just turned 4 about 2 months earlier but my cousin was a Junior at Bama and she attended the game. Hence, my entire family made it a point to watch the game. That was my indoctrination into Bama football. Obviously, I didn't clearly understand what I was watching but I remember the day/ game well.
For those that say yeah, right. I have a weird memory with sports and numbers. Just sent my mom a text earlier this week with the phone number to the job she worked in 1986-87 and asked if she recognized the number. She didn't. I told her when/where it was from as I looked it up after it popped into my head and it's under new ownership but same location and phone number. I can remember the phone numbers of my 3-4 best friends from the same time period. Now you can tell me your name......and 5 minutes later I'll be asking ...."What was your name again?". Amazing how that works.
You get out of it what you put into it!
That's my earliest memory as well, dammit. Must. Have. Revenge!
That is my first memory. My mom and dad had tickets to the Bama/Auburn game every year, but always left my brother and I with my uncle in Birmingham. That year, they decided I was old enough to go. I was nine, and I remember crying when the game was over.
Beating Vandy's brains out all of the time....66-0 was one of the games. Bama against UT and the 80 yd pass on the very first play to Wayne Wheeler.
Earliest game I remember is the 1985 iron bowl.. don't remember much except crying when au scored with bout a minute remaining... I remember my dad telling me its not over yet, still still 52 seconds left. Y'all know the rest of that story...nothing like watching great Bama games with your dad.. roll tide
1995 Iron Bowl. I was 6. Dad was recording the game on VHS. As soon as the game was done my dad ejected the tape, threw it to the ground and started stomping on it. Thought the poor man lost his mind.
I understand now
Great question that brings back fond memories.... listening to 1967 Alabama/UT game on the radio in the back of the family station wagon in Arkansas. 12 years old and I was totally engaged with the game. As I recall, it was raining and Bama wins 11-10 on a field goal.... UT missed a field at the end of the game. First game I saw Bama play was 1973 UT in Birmingham... 42-21. Got to meet Coach Bryant after the game. Became a Bama fan that day. RTR
Unfortunately it's the 71 season Orange Bowl against Nebraska. However I fondly remember the 77-6 game over Virginia Tech - my first game in the stands.
BBD, I also have a fairly automatic recall of dozens of old phone numbers and stats and scores from back in my childhood. I refer to that as primary memory, to which, most other memory is connected. I also happen to enjoy your posts...Roll Tide!
1972 Punt Bama Punt. I was 8. Also have vivid memories of watching '73 Sugar bowl. What sticks out to me is that Notre dame beat us by one point the first time two points the second time (74 Orange Bowl) three points ther third time (in South Bend I believe in 1977. Then of course by 7 in Bham. This is why us older Bama fans want this game bad. We beat the hell out of em in 86. But they beat the hell out of is a few years later in South Bend. Roll Tide.
