Right here, and I'm starting to believe that we need a change. The problem is, I don't know how much better of a coach we can get. Just remember, this is Alabama basketball, not Alabama football. We can't go out and pick whoever we want and throw him $$$$$. It will have to be a mid to upper class coach, but not elite. MOST of the elite guys are at schools where basketball is the number 1 sport. Grant, to me, was the best choice we had at the time.
Thank You. Sick of hearing everyone say we need to "recruit some shooters". Having lived in Huntsville I followed Lacy and Randolph closely and trust me when I say those guys should be much more productive than what we have seen to this point. Throw in Cooper, Releford, and Pollard and we have some legit offensive talent on this team. Andrew Steele was rated fairly high coming out as was Jacobs. We may not have a dominant post player, but we have enough offensive weapons and enough untapped potential there to put a much better product on the floor than that abortion we saw last night. This should be a legit NCAA trny team at this point. Many say that lack of depth has prevented us from playing the 40 min. full court pressure game CAG likes to play. If that's the case then stop leaving schollies open in hopes of who you might sign next year and sign a full roster. There are plenty of Bball players out there that may not be 5*s but are talented enough to provide the depth needed to run that type of system. What happens next year? I hear we may only end up with the two current signees if we miss on a few other targets and then what? Hold that other schollie for the 2014 cycle? I laughed at Jeff Lebo at the barn for seeming to never have a full roster but here we are in year four with the same scenario. It's time to shake things up! New assistants, new philosophies, perhaps a more up tempo style of play? Be it with or without CAG some things must change! Our recruiting hasn't been as bad as some make it out to be, but it seems we have put all our eggs into just a few baskets without much of a backup plan when things haven't gone as we hoped. I realize that bball recruiting is a different animal than other sports( it truly is about year 3 before you start to see real results) but it doesn't matter if we do not develop them and put them in a position to be successful once we get them. Anyone who has the pedigree of CAG should be able to walk into practice today and make some changes immediately that are visible in our next game. I mean at this point what do we have to lose?
I support him. He wasn't out there shooting the ball. The team is devastated by injuries this yr. You might know that if you actually followed the program.
He might not be out there shooting the ball, but he is the one teaching them the fundamentals of the game and we are horrible fundamentally.
every team is entitled to a really bad night - no excuse just saying. I watched it. It sucked but we will bounce back
How about when we are throwing the ball inbounds under our own basket, and they get a layup out of it!
Sure every team has bad nights. Our problem is we struggle every game even if we win.
I don't get the urge to call out fans who err on the side of supporting a coach and wanting him to have a chance to succeed. I've been a grant supporter and still am. But I also honestly see the problems and the possibility of needing to make a change in the future.
That said I think it's a bit juvenile to call fans out that are maintaining support for him. I think if we as fans should err in either direction it should always be to back a coach esp a guy who is a good and honest man who represents the university with dignity.
Again that doesn't mean he's earned a lifetime contract. His future is nearing a crossroads. But geez, are you proud of the fact that you may be rights out him?
I'm of the opinion that if it reaches that point it's something we should all lament. Not brag about... Jmo
Right Here! Roll Tide Coach Grant!
They've had exactly one injury of significance - Engstrom. And even Engstrom is a project type post player. He's basically the white Moussa - zero offensive ability, tentative rebounding, awful footwork, and above average defense only because he's the largest player on the floor.
Steele was out for a few games, and I can abide the fact that we sucked when he was out to some degree, but losing him doesn't explain throwing up 37 points against one of the worst Auburn teams I can recall. It doesn't explain why we've failed to break 60 points in exactly HALF of our games this season. It doesn't explain why the other two post players aside from Engstrom couldn't score if they were naked in a room full of Bavarian hookers.
You might know that if you actually followed the program....

"Devastated by injuries"???? We have one guy Engstrom who would definitely provide us some quality minutes but who is by no means an all star out for the season. Steele, a veteran, but reserve player nonetheless missed a few games. How does this equate to devastated with injuries? It should have cost us maybe a game or two at worst.
