Do we watch the same Alabama? Saban plays the best players. Doesn't care at all about "time in the program".
I know this but ppl forget about players already on the team while jacking off about recruits
I think OJ Howard and Derrick Henry will play. They enrolled early and they are just matchup nightmares for opposing defenses for coach Nuss not to use them. Defensively the only player I can see getting early PT is Jonathan Allen. He's a legit pass rusher and you`re going to need several when playing the spread hurry up teams.
Yeah but who do you think is in better physical shape and more likely to know the system?
But as Ghost said completely forget about players if they haven't played their 1st year.
I think A shawn can have a role similar to dareus his freshman year. He will be the best pass rushing dt we have as soon as he steps on campus. I thought he would go o line, but after watching his footage i believe he is every bit as good as vanderdoes, but probably has a higher ceiling.
Big difference in talent on the team IMO. Ro, DH, and CJ played over 3 star and lightly recruited players. None of those guys start or get meaningful PT on next years team IMO. Ro beat out no one for the spot and had a walk on playing beside him. DH beat out a converted safety for the spot(Reamer).
Foster is going to have to come in and beat out a 5 star LBer like Ragland for meaningful PT. I just don't see him coming in with a month of fall camp and earning reps over Depriest, Mosley and backups like Patrick and Ragland. It could happen by mid season but Mosley and Depriest are 1st and second round draft pick type of players next year. Not sure a freshman in the history of college football would come in and play over those guys.
Also, none of the guys you mentioned that earned PT came into a situation where the starters from a year ago are returning.
This is so far from the truth...
Cooper wasn't even a starter to open the season. Saban goes with guys that know the position over talent every day of the week. Had all the guys not gotten hurt his numbers would have been no where near as good. Look at his numbers the first 6 games of the year. Good but not great like he ended up with. Cooper was maybe the best Frosh WR in the history of UA football and wasn't even a starter over DeAndrew White.
For goodness sake he played Vinnie nearly the whole year at a position where Smith was clearly better the minute he began seeing PT. A guy like Anders played over Upshaw as a sophomore, Vinnie and Perry over Collins and Smith last year.
Freshman that have played at UA have come into positions where there was not much depth. DH, Milliner, RO, MI, Trent, Yeldon, etc.
Julio played b/c we had no WRs (and he was a stud).
Please post who you think is going to play next year.
Howard and Henry are playing at positions where there is very little depth and PT in front of them (before anyone gives me Yeldon as PT... you are right but we play 2-3 backs and Henry will get alot of snaps this spring therefore, he will be given every opportunity to play). Plus, he brings a different skill set than Yeldon.
I disagree on Allen. I just don't see him getting PT over Dickson, Hubbard and Devall. He'd have to have Clowney ability IMO to do that as a frosh.
I'll be shocked if he has significant PT this year. I think he is very raw and is going to need to be coached up.
If was playing o line then I would agree. I don't believe people realize how talented he is. I'm not expecting him to start, but from a pass rushing standpoint we don't have another nose tackle that his ability.
My point was saban will play the best player. If you read my other posts I say the same as you about CJ and depriest. They will be a mainstay. My other point is there is always 3 Inside LB that play meaningful snaps. It is not a stretch to say that if rueben does all the right things and plays with discipline and makes reasonable progress learning defense, he could see time this year.
And to your other point about Ro and dh competition , those two play as a frosh on all Alabama teams in the last 15 years in my opinion.

No. It is exactly the truth. Players come here knowing they have a shot at playing 3 years and then moving on. I have no idea who will play next year. Neither do you. Won't know till they start teeing it up. I'm not saying start 1st game but Duvall played a bunch. Did you predict Yeldon to get the amount of carries he did? What they did last year on the team means nothing. You have to earn it every snap with Saban. Always have. Who cares where they start the year? This thread isn't about that. "I'm sorry OJ. Even though it is evident that you would clearly help our team win and you have blown up fall practice, we have two guys that have been here longer. Grab you some bench." <-----LMAO.

U think Alex Watkins was the best player his senior season, or just knew the system better?
I think it's a lot easier for an offensive player to just step in than a defensive player in sabans system. I think it's pretty much proven with Sunseri on the field over guys like Collins, Smith , and others
Look at last year. The only guys who contributed early were on offense. It was at least mid season before you saw any of the guys like decal stepping forward. Saban definitely plays knowledge over talent at times on defense!
Are you implying that there are no incoming fresman in our current crop that are capable of learning the system quickly?

We should start William Ming IYO?
Go back and read my posts. Yes I did think Yeldon would play alot. Even predicted 1,000 yard rushing year if we had a few injuries.
I also said that Cyrus, Collins, and many other guys wouldn't b/c they had experience or a juco in front of them. A guy like OJ has a chance and Henry b/c there is not alot in front of them. I cannot think of a time when a freshman stepped in and started over thee previous years starters. It just hasn't happened. Most of the freshman have started b/c there just isn't anyone else in front of them or have very little talent in front of them.
