Mettenberger also threw for 300 on us, so that stat isn't exactly encouraging.
Like someone else said, this defense lost a ton to the NFL and is still, very good... but not as good as last season. Any secondary has trouble covering receivers for several seconds, and that's what ours have had to do quite a bit this season. I don't know if that's by design or if the D Line just isn't getting there, but the result is the same against accurate QBs and smart WRs... find the seam in the zone or get a step on your man and exploit it.
Having said that... we're so spoiled. Our defense is "just" ranked #1 in the nation in scoring. But they don't measure up to our high standard of last season :)
10 Major Poll National Titles (CFB record)
35 Bowl Wins (CFB record)
72 Wins over last 6 years (CFB record)
I've watched some of our DLinemen's rush on obvious passing downs in the past few games and it seems like almost all of them try to use a "bull rush". Obviously, it's not very effective, especially with SEC OLinemen. Occasionally, you might see a player try a spin move but it rarely works either.
Which of the following is the cause of our lack of a dominant pass rusher?
A. Natural talent
Which of the above made Jason Taylor and Julius Peppers so effective?
Defense is #1 in the nation in total defense and scoring defense. I guess we have to complain about something.
Exactly, even after all we lost last year, at the end of the regular season we sit at numero uno in total and scoring defense and top five in the other major defensive categories. Yeah, it can be a little frustrating when we don't get as many sacks as other teams. But the numbers don't lie, we do a better job of suffocating offenses than anyone in the country, so obviously our style works. I try to remind my dad and brother of that when they say "I wish we could rush the QB like LSU/South Carolina does".

Did you really post this? #1 scoring and total defense in the country, 4 shutouts, don't exactly support your expert opinion.
"Quit trying to make a play and do your job!"
Wait, what? You must not have watched much of UGAy...
He's not mobile he has less rushing yards than Aj. He can't outrun our linebackers like Johnny and Wallace could.
