Their schedule is very favorable for 5 wins. 7 wins will take some good ole Awbren luck.
The real question is- will AU be better this year than last? People keep calling in sports shows and talking about how Gus was the real coach of the team before he left. Well in that case, what happened in 2011? That offense was awful that year too.
Next year's offense: They still dont have a QB and I think they are putting their hopes in a JUCO kid that hasnt even made it to campus yet. He also threw 20 INT's in 11 games last year and had a 56% comp% in JUCO - the speed of the SEC will give him some problems. They have a good RB in Tre Mason and a JUCO guy that could help. If either of them get banged up or injured they have little in reserves. They also lack that speed-back that can get to the edge - which is key for Gus' offense. They will struggle against disciplined and physical defenses. And their offense will also put their defense on the field a lot and in bad situations.
Next year's defense: They will be improved here from last year.. which isnt saying much. I am not sure they have the coverage skills at the DB position to really run that defense. But they will be pesky at times. Teams like UT and Ark that have no QB or skill players of their own will get mauled by this defense. Teams like LSU, BAMA and TAMU who can control the clock and convert 3rd downs will wear these guys out.
I think, just like the last 2 seasons, we will know after MSU where this team is. A loss to MSU and the season will be dreadful. A win and they could possibly squeeze out 7 wins. But they will have no margin for error if they want to ge 6 or 7 wins.
LSU could possibly be a ? game as well. While LSU is clearly more talented & it will be in Baton Rouge. I can't forget what an egg they almost laid at the Barn last season. & they lost a ton of players off that defense. Not saying Barn will win. But that is a game LSU could come out uninspired again. Could be first moral victory for the Gus Short Bus!

you never can count out Lester - to win a game he shouldnt and lose a game he shouldnt - so I guess its plausible. BUT - I think the matchup in this game is what will do them in. Power running and play action passing.
Last year's LSU game was AU's last gasp for air in their season - they gave every ounce of energy they had and lost. I think it would be much more difficult for them to go into Death Valley and do the same thing this year.
But we shall see. If AU beats LSU they might win 8 games. That's a scary thought
They should put 28+pts. on the Barn defense if they play to their potential. But with what they lost on defense. Gus to gut them with some bs trick plays. & score some early points. Also what does not having Hill do to LSU's running game? & will Cameron make Mettenberger a more consistent qb than last season? LSU has a load of question's to answer this year.
Not with the QB's they presently have. How many players do they have who will play in the NFL? They don't have many, and when you couple that with not having a quarterback, it equates to a bunch of losses. Surely they can be better than 3-9, but they won't be very good this season. I'm thinking like 5-7. They might go 6-6. They're certainly losing to Bama, UGA, LSU, and TAMU. They'll probably lose to Ole Miss too. Ole Miss will be pretty good in 2013. Their season rests on beating Arkansas, Mississippi State, and Tennessee and then winning all their non-conference games. We'll see if they can do that?
Some people bring a knife to a gun fight. Mark Richt brings a Super Soaker 2000.
If only the OP would have made the thread title more clear so you would not have to open a thread you do not care about.
You are exactly right. I do feel like LSU still has a good OL a SR QB, solid RB's and big, talented WR's. Their defense will be suspect. But no more suspect than AU's. I would call those a wash. If LSU can control the clock and wear down the defense they win. IF not, AU could shock the world!
Don't forget about UGA. The barn plays them like always and Aaron Murray is still there. He will rip their defense a new bunghole. Again. For the third straight year. Should be fun watching Todd Gurley run on them too.
Oh I am counting them! In the loss category. Should be brutal.
I bet my brother a 5 pack ( cigars) that the barn won't do better than 5-7. I'm counting on them losing their opener.

Wins: Wash St.,Arky St.,W.Carolina,Fla Atlantic,
if the Boogs manage to win the 4 cupcake games & beat MSU it's possible they could sneak in a win on the road vs either Arky or Tenn.
but a 7 win season could depend on getting a ho-hum Bowl (skank) opponent if they find a way to go 6-6 during the regular season.
on the flip side, if they go O'fer in the 3 tossup tilts, the newly erected clothes lines next to the drug store arent going to see very much toilet paper next Fall.
I think they will struggle to win four or five games. To start the season they will be throttled by WSU(watch and see) and then I really do not see them winning a single SEC game. They still do not have a QB who is capable of playing in the SEC and you need one to win games in this conference. Their defense was absolutely atrocious last year and won't be much better this year as they have recruited horribly on that side of the ball. I mean Jake Holland is still starting on defense(BWAAAAAHAHAHA). Their future is pretty bleak IMO.
Wazzou will be a tough game. But I don't see them coming to the Deep South in August & winning. Both teams having a fast break offense will kill Wazzou in this one imo. Their defense will fold early.
if Wussy St beats Auburn, the SEC should rethink their new stance on no PPV games inorder to save fans from having to watch Aubie play agian.
I agree. I think Mike Leach cut his teeth on putting kids in sheds and winning games he has no business being in.
In this case he has no business being in this game due to the SEC national perception.
I think the pirate might just get him some early season booty.
Does auburn have a defense?
There's a lot to complain about in May I guess. Smh
