Let's not forget #42. He's going to be an integral part of this offense this season. I know Yeldon will be a great part as well. But Lacy is still our #1 and just like 2009, Ingram wouldn't be Ingram without Trent spelling him. But Trent wouldn't have been Trent without Ingram blazing the trail.
We've got a few years to see Yeldon kill it on the field. But let's not be so eager to watch him that we forget to let Lacy shine. He's waited his turn. Now it's his time.
Lacy will have a good year. Yeldon and Fowler both will push him. But I wouldn't be surprised to see Yeldon be the starter at some point.
And by the way...Lacy doesn't need to put the ball on the ground again. Don't care if it is the last play of the half.
That is not the way Saban ball works.
No one has forgotten about Lacy, I love the guy. Saban does
Not play anyone because they deserve it
More. COach will play the best if that a freshman or a junior it does
We will see a lot from Lacey, Yeldon and Fowler all year. I hope they all stay healthy.
Yep. Just not the way things happen with Saban. The best players play the most, seniority means absolutely nothing.
I think Lacy is a great talent but with Yeldon showing up the way he did and Lacy hurt a bit, I am not sure if he holds on to the starting position.
I know we as fans have our guys that we like/favor. But imo should we really care if it's Lacy/Yeldon/Fowler? All have a role. & the bottomline is winning football games. We should all respect that Coach Saban has the stones to have faith in a tf. Over playing the guy who has been around awhile imho.

I feel it kind of worked that way in 2010. All due respect to Ingram, but Trent had to wait for his turn.
Yeldon and Fowler looked like one heck of a duo Saturday night.
I'm not convinced that Trent was a better back that particular year. Overall, sure. Trent had some probs picking up the blitz and getting frustrated in 2010. JMO.

Trent might have had the edges as a pure runner. But Ingram was better at the position overall.
I think he was with Mark coming back from injury. Trent was the best player on the field when he had his shot for the Penn State game that year but had to turn the reigns back over. But obviously it is splitting hairs because both were so talented. This year it could be different because you can just see that Yeldon has "it." In fairness to Lacy, he is far from 100 % and I'll be glad for him when he gets there. But, I agree that the combo of Yeldon and Fowler was dynamic Saturday night.
I agree. I love all our backs. But if Lacy is healthy, I want him starting.
I don't think we will ever see Lacy fully healthy while at Bama. He's a junior now. & has had various injuries at different times during his whole career. He's running out of time guys.
After the first few games last year, Alabama fans were saying the same thing. Lacy experienced some success early while Trent appeared to struggle. We all know how that turned out.
Yeldon was an unknown coming into this game. He will not face Michigan every weekend. It will not always come as easy as it did Saturday night. When that happens, Lacy will get the bulk of the work because he is already accustomed to the beating. So, while Yeldon had an outstanding game lets not be so quick to make him the starter because we have a long way to go.
I don't think it is "hype" as the op states....Yeldon is for real....
TIFWIW...I heard thru the grapevine that CNS thinks Lacy is not in the shape he should be in...and Lacy is claiming its his natural build.
Still a long ways to go before we start adjusting the depth chart. But you would have to be blind not to see the talent of TJ or Jalston for that matter.
Competition is going on everywhere. It might be one of the reasons we are pretty good.
LSU & probably UGA/South Carolina if we make SEC Championship game. Are the only decent defensive teams we will fact this year. While the players might be bigger. I think any of our backs can take the pounding. & it's not like any of them are gonna be asked to tote the rock as much as Trent did per game last year. Like Saban said it's not running back by committe. It's we've got 4 or 5 really good back at our disposal. & he intends to use them all.
I agree. I've been high on Fowler in the past, but I can't believe the game he played. He looks so much better running the ball this year. This guy could easily start for most teams.
Yeldon is way ahead the game at this point. Not sure if he'll be the starter this season but he'll see plenty of action.
Especially if Lacey doesn't cut his hair or get the chin straps a little tighter. Getting replaced by Yeldon because of the helmet rule may be an issue even he can't overcome.
Lacy is a good player but tj is just better
I'm hoping Yeldon eats up harts carries. I am all for fresh legs and using several backs, but 4 is too many. I'd like to see Yeldon get 16-18, lacy 10 and fowler 5 or so
The problem with your logic is that Ingram is a lot better then Lacy is. Am I only the only one who wasn't too impressed with Dee Hart?
I respectfully disagree with you, here. Mark earned that starting spot each week. To my recollection, he only had one off-game, and that was the Auburn game. Trent really came through for us in the 2nd half.
About a month ago Saban was on with Van Pelt and when asked about this team and the "next in line mentality" he said they are preaching that "just because it's your turn doesn't mean it's your time. You have to put in the hard work to make it ’your time’." Those were his exact words. I remember it because i wrote the quote down for reference to my baseball team.
I'm not disputing the premise of your post, just that Yeldon has most likely earned his PT and EL is going to have to continue to earn his. If they both earn it, they will both get carries. Simple as that, IMO.

There were no problems with my logic. I was not stating that was a predictor for what would happen here. I was specifically talking about 2010. I did not insinuate Lacy should be entrenched as the starter. I stated the opposite. Please read more effectively.
Slow down man! This is just one game! The SEC is a grind that will take a toll on a freshman. Yeldon will be a good running back but one game is not enough evidence to support the claim that he is better than Lacy. He may well end up being better than Lacy eventually but give the guy some time to develop before you anoint him. The defensive lines will get bigger and better as the season goes along. Also, teams are going to begin to be better prepared for him as well.
