I'd hate to be a player when you are reffing elementary girls basketball.
So, that should give him a pass and we should overlook our horrible offensive sets? All cause of ONE win against an overrated Duke team?
Ding ding ding..im glad the refree i just talked to said it was a foul and he is an AU fan. This guy needs to go back and hand in his AHSAA refree certification card
The defender was off balance because he took the pump fake, then, because he was off balance he continued to move toward the offensive player. When Lacy started his shot the defenders contact caused him to not be able to continue his shot. That is a foul. We shouldn't have given up all those offensive rebounds which is why we lost the game, but that is still a foul.
Tennessee could easily be 5-1 in conference play. One or two possessions each game aside from the Ole Miss game, they would easily be 5-1. Not as bad as their record suggests.
Luckily for us, our next 9 games are against very beatable lower tier SEC opponents. Wishful thinking here but if we go 9-0 before we play FL and Ole Miss then our tourney chances should be looking pretty good at 21-7.
"Hey, hey, hey. A life. A life, Jimmy, you know what that is? It's the shit that happens while you're waiting for moments that never come."
That is your criteria?
He has a good year or two at a small school and scores an upset and that is your criteria...?
Evaluate his coaching at UA. It is poor - very poor.
Some like to think we have a good defensive team - WE DO NOT. We hold the ball until the shot clock expires so we shorten EVERY game. It is not because we are some great defensive team.
On offense -- everyone watching knows exactly what we are going to do. It is easy to defend us. We don't run plays --- we run around and around the three point line until the shot clock is at 10 and then isolate.
Recuiting is a B-. And that is just a simple fact.
Most of our wins are not because of CAG but because of the players will to overcome the situation they are in.
He is a super nice guy ---- but a sub par coach and recruiter.
It was a foul yes but it shouldn't have come down to that. In that spot on the floor? Where was the drive? Where was a well drawn up play? Where was anything other than what we usually see? Our offense looking confused and lost just trying to make a prayer shot of a play? Typical Anthony F'ing Grant BS.
No, but people should know better than say he's nothing but a highschool level coach. Get real people. Coach Grant is a quality coach. If Bama were to fire him, he would have a job the next week.
I didn't think it was a foul after watching a few replays. To me, it looked like Stokes jumped towards Lacey but landed and stood his ground before Lacey went up for the shot. It also didn't look like Lacey went straight up to me. Tough call but not gonna get those on the road a lot.
That last possession was a train wreck either way. It epitomizes the "WTF are we doing" offensive gameplan that we can't seem to get past. It's nauseating to watch.
Even if that was the case he was still turning his body and the contact occurred with the defender moving and not facing the offensive player. That is typically a foul. It was a terrible possession, but still a foul, imo.
To all of the people saying we should fire Grant, who the hell are we going to get to replace him? He would have another job in a week and we would still be searching.
There was a thread last week about facilities and it got taken over immediately by a guy talking about entitlement spending and comparing our athletic department to the government spending.
The fact is that our football program generates a ton of revenue. Why not spend some of the excess on a new, state of the art coliseum and give Coleman to the gymnastic program. I think they deserve it.
Wes Rucker @wesrucker247
Even most Tennessee fans seem to think Jarnell Stokes fouled Alabama's Trevor Lacey before the clock expired, FWIW.
Tim Brando @TimBrando
A horrible no call at the end of the Alabama/Tennessee game. Free throws should have happened
Ian Fitzsimmons @Ianfitzespn
Wow - no call on that Lacy last shot?!?! Stokes got away with a big one.
Also, do people really think that if our football program had mediocre facilities that we could draw top coaches and recruits? What can we do to draw a top tier coach that doesn't involve a top tier coliseum? I'm asking out of curiosity of what others think.
Understand your complaint, but faulty logic. Conference play, on the road, is an entirely different beast. Yes this is not a good Tennessee team, but still the same team that took a good Ole Miss team down to the wire. So just disagreeing with your logic that this game shouldn't even have been close. Doesn't work like that. Games aren't played on paper.
And yes, we let one get away from us.
Even the TV game announcers thought it was a foul.
But, of course, everyone is entitled to their opinions.
All that is meaningless.
Lets now all concede that it was a foul. Take that a step further and assume we make the free throws and win. So what? Do you feel good about the direction of the basketball program? Are we even the slightest threat to anyone? No.
I am not interested in making it to the NCAA Tournament. That is like CNS saying - he wants our team to make it to a bowl game. CNS wants to win Championships and goes about doing that. I want our basketball team to be a shoe-in to the touranment every year with a chance to do something special.
The bigger question is ----- why in the world is UA paying $2m to have such poor coaching? Ask yourself - what had the better talent on the floor today? We did not lose because of the Refs. We are an average basketball program and have been for a while and will be until we go after and get the high-end coach.
DA troll. GTFO.
"We're modern-day gladiators, and that mental toughness is really important to have in a good team." Nick Saban
And the guy on the court wearing a striped shirt that missed the call.....he is a ref as well. Still effed up though.
I know the SEC is down but there are about seven teams in the league that have bigger problems than we do. If we got rid of Grant everyone outside of a large number of Bama fans would say it is a bad idea.
