Yep, just said that. Now, I understand that in some zone schemes, zone blitzes - the a DT SOMETIMES drop in coverage - but not really at Alabama....
Just an outstanding statement by the former coach. Shows why he's playing 2nd fiddle to Dooley on air currently.
He also tried to work in that "Good players are just regular guys at Alabama". Douche
Also shows why his defenses allowed 900 points per game this year.
Tennessee's 2nd to last play in the 2009 game (the one that set them up for the final fieldgoal attempt), Marcel Dareus was covering the TE that made the catch on that play.
"Now alot of times, Rees, we like to actually put our corners with a hand on the ground right in front of the center. Their quickness here is key and can really affect the pitcher during the windup."
Do you not remember the 2009 TN game... When they were driving late and we blocked the kick... The big pass play to the tight end.., the person in coverage for us... Marcel Dareus
Now Jim is still an idiot, but we have dropped them in coverage before
Sorry... Was typing my response when yours was posted
he was speaking to his athleticism. i haven't had a problem with the Chiz today. and no i'm not a barner. you guys are peeling back everything he is saying
"And when you're down two sets to love, we find the best strategy involves having our linebackers double down when the dealer shows bunt."
Was thinking of the exact same play. +1
He said "you can stand him up and drop him in coverage". WHAT??!! How often Chiz? LMAO
He also said he was not 275, but rather pushing 300...as if Gene has seen him in the past 3 months.
“Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, today is a gift of God, which is why we call it the present.”
Oh, I know. Just having some laughs, guy. Really disappointed in not donning the leather jacket.
if Ole Jim says it, you can take it to the bank. what? :)
Oh I remember - I was there... "not really" should have been "not frequently" ...
Follow up question... did the dropping the DT in coverage work on this play? Clearly not. I haven't seen it much at all at Bama.
So he gives a compliment to the recruit and you take it as a negative. Ok......
Have you seen us do this after that play since then? And..
Do you think CNS thought MD would have to cover a TE deep down the middle on that called play?
We all know it happens every now and then, but in no way will this guy be called to drop back more than 8-10 times in a season. Trenches guys stay in the trenches. I see your point though, just thought I would chime in.
Any teeth sightings???
We have dropped our DTs in coverage. Marcel Dareus and Lorenzo Washington did this sometimes. We just haven't had the right personnel. Our defense morphs to highlight our defensive players' combined best attributes.
every now and then on Playstation3 NCAA I drop my 3 Techniques in coverage...well, cause i've created them as super human strength, quickness. i.e. my DL are as fast as WR.
I agree with everything you said, except the thing about you being a barner. I know having rivals take your site away is hard, but we know you still bleed orange.
who is Chizik?
Get your facts first, and then you can distort them as much as you please. -Mark Twain
Well, technically those guys weren't DT's, but rather DE's in our 34 defense. But again, I see your point clearly and also I know that those guys did play inside sometimes too. No need to point that out as I was being "technical" as I so eloquently stated above (G)
