I was at Willhagen's right up in front of the main tvs. When AJ threw it I stood right up knowing it was a TD. The place went nuts and as I turned around my friend bear hugs me and drove us both straight into the tvs and the wall. All I heard was what sounded like crushed wall and tvs and was thinking we are about to owe them a couple grand. To my delight when I turned around the tvs were fine and I could breathe easy.
"We're modern-day gladiators, and that mental toughness is really important to have in a good team." Nick Saban
A fan just behind me and to the left voiced my thoughts perfectly as the play began:
AJ lines up behind center.
"Please don't do anything stupid."
AJ drops back to pass.
"That was stupid."
I wasn't sure what would happen. I was terrified because AJ had been holding the ball way too long all day and feared this was going to be 2nd and a mile. Then he lobbed it up and I started to panic, looking for open receivers. I didn't even see Amari running at the bottom of the field and got that sinking feeling a pick was coming. Seemingly three minutes later, the ball reached the corner of the end zone and there was a wide open Amari pulling it in. Obviously I yelled, cheered, jumped up and down, and high-fived, but in the back of my head I knew we had left too much time. Reminded me of the bomb to Kenny Bell against A&M.
When the ball was snapped I could see Coop make the fake/cut at the top of the screen, and could just tell from the first move he was already wide open. When AJ looked the safety off I didn't think he saw him, but the play was drawn up for him to do just that, so when he came back to him I knew Coop was going to be waaay behind him. I was initially afraid that AJ didn't see him and was screaming at the top of my lungs to go to the other side.
This ballgame got me called on the carpet by my better half........my vocabulary expanded a little and she was afraid the kids might have picked up on it.....Fortunately, I haven't heard either on say anything like, "stupid SOB's", etc.......
I have been doing really good all year but this game got me....
I don't remember. As soon as he caught it I kind of blacked out.
