Am I the only one that thinks had Baltimore shopped a little more they coulda gotten better than 6?? I wish my Dolphins had offered up a 5 or even a 4!!
Oh, I TOTALLY get that cap space necessitated letting him go for Baltimore...my point is, had Ozzie given an interview on NFL network and said, "Yeah we're trading him to the highest bidder who wants to give him his 6 mil this year", I think they'd have gotten more than a 6, and a low 6 at that....
A LOT of this trade is also for Bolden himself. Ozzie has become not only one of the best in the NFL, but very player friendly relative to the position. If its possible for a win win - he will help a player out that has done so for years as a Raven.
NO DOUBT he could have gotten a higher draft pick from someone. I don't think we can even debate that. But it would not have meet everyone's best interest needs and he did this big time for AB. Gotta respect the heck out of that. Bolden, if sent to Cleveland, or Oakland or name your spot - would not have been happy and very much could have not agreed to extend his deal like is expected in SF. Other teams knew of this as well which limited some what Baltimore could get in return. Still - They did a solid for everyone involved on this one. Rare in todays sport.
The ravens weren't in a strong position to get a lot back for him as every NFL team knew they would have to cut Boldin within the next two days to stay under the cap and accomplish what they wanted in free agency(resign Ellerbe, find a LT, ..etc)
I'm not shocked. NFL trades are always very one sided.
all respect--youre wrong...they didnt have to cut him, they had the offer of at least a 6. That's my point---there were probably teams who would have taken a shot at him on the market. My question is would somebody have given more than that 6 had they known?? And it could be that they werent willing to trade in the AFC. But I STILL say SOMEBODY woulda given more, and I disagree with the poster above that Baltimore went outta their way to find hte best spot for AB himself...
I didn't say the best spot. I said a spot he would extend and that certainly plays into a deal. It also factored into what they could get whether you agree or not.
I respectfully disagree. The ravens had given Boldin an ultimatum take a pay cut or be cut. Boldin declined to take a pay cut. The Ravens had placed a higher priority on replacing Ray Lewis with Ellerbe, finding a LT, a FS, maybe a Center, maybe a vet OLB. Why would an nfl team give up more than a 6th for a aging possession receiver when they wouldn't have to give anything up for him in a couple days?
Nah, he's right. If the Ravens had the cap space to keep him they would have. When every team in the league knows you're going to cut a player, a sixth round pick is the most you're going to get, which is why that's all they got. Do you think San Francisco was the only team they called and they didn't even try to get something higher?
I would have thought so. Still has a couple good years left. He's a leader. Very productive. 49ers are the best organization personnel wise right now IMO.

No doubt. They are absolutely loaded. Tough to imagine the Ravens winning the Super Bowl without Boldin and they got him for a very expendable 6th round pick. They still have 14 draft picks left BTW.

They are at the top of the food chain and look how well they have set up for draft and free agency.
This topic was discussed on sports radio in Boston yesterday. He'd be perfect for the Pats & certainly worth a 4th or 5th rounder but no way Ozzie trades him to an AFC foe.
