But back to the game....
I think we should be able to put up points on these guys, and we're going to need them. I see a shootout coming.
Spring football > golf
BBD, I agree. We are all homers, but he just went full hater mode on this one lol.
Following FortWorth's lead and getting back on topic, I see this game being high scoring as well, but I see it going a lot like last year. We are going to have to weather the storm of their first 3-4 drives. We are also going to have to STAY BALANCED and take advantage of every opportunity that we get. 3-4 plays we had a sack or a tackle on a WR that was missed and converted a 1st down or a TD. We can't do that in their house. We are going to have to come out and play flawless.
Eat clean. Train Hard.
His arm sucks? Really? And all anyone has to do is keep him in the pocket. They won't win a game.
The Masters > baseball > spring ball
I know we're all jonesing for some football but come on....spring ball only matters if it's your team
watching TAMU scrimmage is boring to me
From what I've read the goal will be to flush him from the pocket and contain him with help from the sidelines. His accuracy outside the pocket was pretty bad last year. And it was definitely a whole lot worse than when he was in the pocket. The dudes got an arm. 4-2-5? Maybe...
I think he had a 91 passing efficiency rating outside the pocket last year. So while he did make magic against us, he struggled vs the other teams, especially UF and LSU.

"We're modern-day gladiators, and that mental toughness is really important to have in a good team." Nick Saban
Gonna have to jump in and pile on BM as well on this one. His off-field antics and on-field arrogance make him easy to dislike, but Johnny Football is the real deal. I especially enjoy all the posts talking about how no one knew what to expect from him last year, and this year he will be shut down/stuffed/he's gonna suck/etc.
No one would know what to expect if I started at QB against Va Tech. Does that mean I would be unstoppable? Hell no. Moreover, teams had plenty of film to figure out what JM was all about in the second half of the season last year. He's going to have another ridiculous year, and they still have weapons surrounding him.
I do think their D will regress and we'll probably beat them. But those that are thinking that JM will fall flat on his face are going to be sorely disappointed me thinks.
The state is the great fictitious entity by which every man believes he can live at the expense of every other. - Frédéric Bastiat
Johnny Football will once again be the best qb we face all season. We won't give up 21 in the 1st qt this season and we won't need a 6 yd td to beat them in the 4th qt. Johnny has a good day but we score 35+ on A&M this year. Not saying we look past BlahTech, but we started prepping for A&M mentally when we lost last season. The game is marked.....

You'll shut up, followed by a 500 word diatribe?
Agree with most of this, but I'm very worried about the secondary. A&M did lose Swope, but they have great young talent at WR. Combine that with the best QB around and the best RB group other than our own, and I see alot of pressure on our D. Saban continues to sound worried about the secondary, and while I know there is a long way to go until kickoff, we cannot afford to be vulnerable there. I think we'll HAVE to score 35+ like you said just to win by a narrow margin.
You're an idiot
FWIW, I think this could be our best offense of the Saban era and we're certainly capable of putting up big numbers against their D. But if you think they're not going to have some success against our defense, I'm afraid you'll be disappointed.
When was the last time an Alabama defense gave up 35 points ? I can't remember because there hasn't been a time. Gave up 29 to them last year and 28 to Georgia and A&M was a better team last year than they will be in 2013. They return the fewest starters of any SEC team. Alabama's defense had a bunch of players out in the spring due to injury and so has A&M but to slight our secondary is unfair. Yes they will have some success but give up 35 points ? Not sure I see that. Call me a homer but I have a lot of faith in our coaches and players.
Statistically Ole Johnny was toward the bottom of the pack of division one QB's when it came to passes over ten yards. I don't think Bamamanager's assessment is that far off base.
Fans will only see what they want to see. We all know A&M will be very good this year and Mazell is a phenomenal athlete. It doesn't make you any less of a fan to admit that.
I'm not sure how well you know A&M's roster. Yes they lost some starters (more on defense though). They have more returning starters on the O line than we do. Matthews is a beast. Swope will be missed but Evans is insanely talented and their young guys are certainly the tallest and arguably the most athletic we will face. They have at least 2 5 star RBs (maybe more, I'm on mobile and can't check) with several 4s behind them. Don't get me wrong, I'm not a "stars are everything" kind of guy, but they are by far the most talented offense we'll encounter. Yes, we gave up 29 last year. That was with a top 10 draft pick at corner and a veteran safety in Lester. We certainly have talent to replace them with, but this secondary has more to prove than the last few we've had. Manziel isn't going to get worse either. He's getting better. He has better command of the play book, and just as we saw with AJ this year, that makes you much more dangerous.
Look, I've got faith in our players and coaches too. But IMO you have to respect the fact that this is the most dynamic offense we've faced since 2008 Florida (and yes I include 2010 AU in that because A&M has far more WR and RB talent). Add that to our rebuilding effort on defense, and I'm just saying I believe we'll have to out score them to win.
Okay then. They're the greatest team ever. You win.
You guys watch their Bowl Game against Oklahoma? It's not just his passing ability....he's "slippery" elusive and fast, probably low to mid 4.4.
He's not just getting lucky. Kid can ball.
I actually like the challenge as it forces our defense to be at their best.
We're doomed. Why even make the trip to College Station ? We have no chance. Oh well.
The butthurt is strong with this one.
That's not at all what I said and you know it. I simply said we can't win this game in our traditional fashion. As I said twice, we're in luck, because this year we are more equipped than ever to win a shootout due to our ridiculous talent on offense.
These people are crazy. There's no way A&M can beat us ever. Oh wait...
We should all be worried about the secondary. Any QB that can use his legs to extend a play for 5-10 secs will eventually make a secondary look foolish. You can't cover everyone indefinitely.
So I guess the biggest concern is us having DL that can give chase and break JF down till help arrives. Like Dareus and Upshaw did to Cam. I'm not sold on Pagan yet either. It was amazing to watch Dareus break down Cam and tackle him in the open field. And JF is quicker than Cam. So ya its troubling to think about. But CNS has had a year to plan for it so....we win lol.
