Could Reuben Foster moving up to #1???

  • Alot of tweets going around that RF should be the #1 ranked player in the country and it isnt even close. Looks like he got some reconition on 7 on 7's and everyone was raving about his skills. GO GETEM RF!!! show them what bama champions are made of.

To be honest, I can't imagine that any of the four major services would rank Foster No. 1. Yes, he is a great, great prospect and no doubt a top 10 easy. But 6-1 middle linebackers don't project in the top 1-3 in the NFL draft; therefore it is almost impossible to rank a MIKE in the top spot. Foster is a great player and will have a tremendous career, but there are other players in other positions that have higher ceilings. I think he stays in the top 5-10 for most services, but would be shocked if he's top 2 consensus when Jan and the final rankings roll around.

Again, don't take this as I am knocking Foster. He is a superstar prospect. Just trying to correlate the general methodology of the industry with his particular talent and skill set.

Would love for it to happen. Just out of curiosity how much does a players pro potential and ceiling play into their rankings?

Seems to be the main factor.

  • I've read some rumbling that Lawson may take over the #1 spot (mostly by AU fans but by other message boarders as well). I would guess this is due to the camp circuit. I've also read though that he is much better in a camp setting than in an actual game. idk because i'm just a BOL junkie that tries to sort through various posts to figure it out. Any thoughts on Lawson Lucky? Not really if he's solid to AU but overall potential and possible final destination for ranking. Thanks and I'll hang up and listen.

Seems to me its all about their college potential and less aimed toward pro potential. Would you say that has a larger effect on the numerical grade than the pro aspect?

Charles or any of the staff could answer better than me, but I would assume for the most part there is a pretty strong positive correlation between the two (college potential and pro potential). Undoubtedly there are exceptions.

  • It stinks that these kids are ranked according to their NFL draft/upside, rather than college projection. I understand that it's an effective method, but this recruiting thing is about kids in college. All in all, star rankings aren't then end all-be all to how a player will develop, but it's a pretty accurate indicator of talent. I think Rueben Foster is as deserving of the #1 ranking as much as anybody. Just doesn't seem right for him not to have the opportunity to get the #1 spot because he doesn't have the height of a typical NFL top prospect. JMO.

Ray Lewis and Patirick Willis AND Zach Thomasshrug

I get the Draft top 1-3, but in terms of NFL potential, he definitely has the possibility to be the best player out of this class.

Just about to post about the top 2 MLB in the NFL today being the same height or shorter than Foster.

Ray Lewis and Patrick Willis are both listed at 6'1". I've also made the same argument about RB heights as all 3 of the RBs that have been selected in the 1st Round of the last 2 drafts:

    2011
    Mark Ingram

    2012
    Trent Richardson
    Doug Martin

are 5'9". Further supported when you look at the top 2 rushers in the NFL in 2011........1) Maurice Jones-Drew and 2) Ray Rice.....

I do agree that Nkemdiche should remain #1 if the ranking is based on NFL impact as a rush DE/OLB has greater value than a MLB. My point was that Foster's height is fine in terms of being an elite MLB.

Jabrill Peppers...More I watch, the more I'm convinced he is the best player in the 2014 class. Barring injury, he will do special things.

  • If you throw pro potential into the mix, Tebow would've been a midgrade 4 star at best. biggrin I understand why the prospects draft stock is considered, but I feel that recruiting services should put more emphasis on their college potential instead. Just my twocents
