Could Someone Please Explain to me why are the Experts

  • Picking LSU to beat Bama this year? I would love for somebody to explain that to me.

My argument why LSU DOESN'T win.

    - New QB who obviously wasn't good enough to beat out the "terrible two" that Miles trotted out last year.
    - Like it or not Bama won both games last year. It was obvious in both games who the inferior team was.
    - Coaching. Huge edge to Bama here. Miles is a nut sack.
    - The Mathieu kid is terrible. I do not understand why people thinks he is a first round pick. NFL scouts will all lol at him.

  • Thats an easy question. They are picking them because:

Their QB is better - Wait no he isnt!
Their RBs are better - Wait no they arent!
Their OL is better - Wait not even close!
Their WR - only maybe as both are unproven
Their DL is better - This one they are possibly better and that is only because they run a 4-3. And this is almost a push.
Their LBs are better - Nope Bama wins again
It has to be because of their DBs then - Umm LOL. once they lost clairborne, Bama is better. And LOL at the honeysuckle

So that is why they are picked ahead of Bama!

  • I agree with every thing you posted. TM is not a good CB & the new QB couldn't beat out two awful QB's last year. I also think Alabama will have one of the best DL's they have had in years & will light QB's up early & often. Everyone wants to make 2012 = 2010 but many things are very differnt & Alabama will not face 6 SEC teams coming off a bye week. The bye week thing still makes me mad & I have no doubt it cost Alabama at least one game.

  • Because they are home and both teams are evenly matched.

This post is homerific. First, the game is at LSU. Their but of a coach has beaten our genius two of the last there times they have played. If I recall correctly, Miles and Saban are 3-3 head to head. Everybody would agree Saban is a better coach, but it is not like he has owned Miles. On the QB, AJ McCarron backed up McElroy, but is a better QB, and the last there NC winners have had first year QB's, so it isn't the kiss of death. Finally, Mathieu is a freaking ballplayer. Anyone his height will be a liability in coverage sometimes, but that kid has a knack for finding the ball and making things happen. We will be a worthy opponent for LSU this year, and could certainly win, but there's no way at this point we can be.considered a clear cut.favorite to go into their stadium and win.

  • CL I don't think it'sas cut & dry as saying they are 3-3. CNS has been building a program & Les had the talent on hand from the first game. Alabama offensive talent at WR has hurt Alabama but I think that is going in the right direction now. I know Julio is a great player but after him there hasn't been that other guy.

Good post. It's going to come down to the wire in BR this year

  • The 'sperts expect a repeat of 2010 - a letdown by alabama. that's it in a nutshell. they also expect better thing from mettenburger and anything from him would be better than jefferson-lee. otherwise i think they see the teams about the same with bama having a better offense and lsu having a better defense.

  • The Homer in me says: Bama will walk into "death valley" and win by two TD's. It's not personal, it's business. We litterally ripped out their souls 4 months ago. Wouldn't surprise me if they were hyperventilating for revenge so much that they came out completely flat from mental exhaustion. Alabama will get in the end zone in 2012 early an often. LSU will be no exception.

I feel much better now having said that. I'll play devils advocate a bit later.

LSU will also have two weeks to rest, heal and prepare for their game against us. To me that and being at home are the biggest two factors favoring LSU.

  • it's just talking points. and as much as everyone loves Bama, the media HAS to produce controversy. Everyone wants to talk about the perfect team and season, they did it all year last year with LSU til Bama ripped that heart out in the BCS title game.

so, let them be favored - so what. that has nothing to do with winning.
go look at some of tBB threads - we are hated (and appreciated) all at the same time. Everyone has Bama envy. we will see positive and negative stories on all things Bama for at least 8 more years.

just enjoy the win at LSU when it happens - but it will NOT be a cake walk and "IF" ole Zachy boy can pull it together and get the offense behind him - they WILL BE DOMINATE. maybe not to Bama, but they will be to everyone else. that D with an Offense that can score? they won't have to rely on Defense scoring like it did last year.

almost the entire D is back.
you guys can talk about our back field all you want, but be legit on analysis of theirs, it's solid - what, 4 or 5 solid running backs (just like us)
OL is not a group of pansies - but i give our DL the nod there
we edge them on LB and the CB/S spots i think are pretty even, with a slight edge to Bama with me being a homer. :)

all in all, again, it's just them being media types who want you to go on twitter and argue with them, or argue with them on blogs, so they can see Ads on their web sites. :)

it will be another great season, and frankly, I want LSU to be great - it will mean more when we beat them in Death Valley.

  • It's two fold,

1.) Picking someone other than Alabama creates excitement elsewhere.toot
2.) Picking against Alabama creates a lot of Alabama discussion.stir

    Ratings = Money

    It's either this or it's their coach...(VBG)biggrin

  • I would not place too much on Mettenberger not beating out Lee or Jefferson last year as an indicator of what he is capable of as a QB. In my opinion, Les Miles is a horrible evaluator of depth chart, and cannot seem to put the right personel on the field at any given time. He has been winning on talent, size and speed alone. Us losing to them last year was embarrasing. We should beat that team everytime we take the field with crappy coaching like they have now that our talent exceeds theirs. Metenberger is, IMHO, an upgrade over Lee and he is leaps and bounds better than Jefferson. That being said....we beat them.

Two of Les's there wins over Saban came after Saban won his first NC at Bama. That argument doesn't hold water. And on the receiver talent, Saban has been responsible for the talent he had in those losses, so all you are really saying is that Saban hasn't recruited that position well enough. That's like saying it's not Les's fault that we won in 2008 because we were more physical that LSU. Makes no sense.

    1. LSwho home game
    2. We lost more mature/experienced starters than they did

Mathieu IS a liability in coverage. I wish I had all the clips of him being burned by numerous teams including us. He is NOT a great cover guy, he's a good tackler and no doubt a playmaker but some of those plays were made on the backs of his team-mates. The kid is an athletic beast, but not in coverage where a CB should be. Also...our own team beat themselves in those two lost games IMO. CNS can only give the gameplan, but he cannot execute it on the field, and our biggest problems came on the field...not from the sidelines.

On another note, I share Kirk Herbstriet's opinion of Mettenberger: "If he is "this guy" we've been hearing about, where the HELL was he last year???"

  • Once again fans who can't take off their "our team is the best in the world" glasses.......

Not sure how they take a step back at QB by replacing Jefferson.... to me that is a win
RB: They are ahead of us - We launch a Jr who has been a back up the past 2 years plus to freshmen. They have 4 of the top rushers back.
They return a lot more on defense than we do.
    They are at home.
It should be a close game either way and hopefully our defense has ironed out all kinks by then.
