***Cristobal hiring ...

  • ... a big blow for UM. Even with the money UA has to throw at candidates, losing a local guy and alum with deep ties to the area has to be tough for those people to swallow. Says a lot about where the two programs involved are right now. Not a lateral move by any means. A couple of good years at UA and he might be in line for the UM (or another good) head job.

  • Big blow mentally. But Golden has operated without Cristobal for 2 1/2 years. And with their hiring of Coley at OC, and his south fla ties in recruiting , they arent losing sleep. Just honestly speaking.

I'm hearing from a connect inside the U that Cristobal was not happy that he was not considered for OC position after Jedd Fisch left for Jax. OC was a no brainer when Coley showed interest. And then brought Stacey Coley the 4* wr with him to CG.

Great great hire for Bama. This guy is FIREY AND PASSIONATE!!

Great point TR. Got to like this hire and it will do nothing but help Alabama continue to make major headway in the talent rich region of south Florida.

He is on at $500K+ I think from FIU anyway for two more years. I don't think we are going to be above that so money theoretically shouldn't matter unless we are giving him a longer deal with more guarantees?

What am I missing on Coley as an OC? Worked at FSU where Jimbo calls the plays. He's a good recruiter, something that shouldn't be a problem in Dade and Broward for any UM staff. That said, Alabama has already established some nice ties in So. Florida and bringing Cristobal in will augment the situation. If you're UM, you'd rather work with Cristobal in the area than against him at Alabama. So, no, it's not just a blow to UM's ego. It's real.

He's probably getting a two-year deal from UA. FIU AD Pete Garcia is a genius. Fire Cristobal after one subpar season when the program was heading in the right direction. I remember Garcia basically being the admin assistant to the head coach at UM and now he's hiring and firing head coaches. Probably a great fundraiser in the area but has no business making those kind of personnel decisions.

Lebron James will never be as good as Michael Jordan, thus we should get rid of his nickname, "The King".

  • Travis,
Obviously Mario will be looking to be a HC again soon. We'll be able to sell the fact that CNS isn't going anywhere. But with Mario looking to eventually move on, and possibly in the next couple of years how do you think that will effect him selling Bama to South Fla kids?

Someone on twitter made an excellent point about this. Ron Turner, who was hired at FIU to replace Cristobal, would never be even considered for a Saban staff. Even at a lower position.

But Cristobal is a homerun for us. Shows you how much intelligence went into firing MC and hiring Turner. Definitely an awful move.
