Yes. Not to double-post (already commented in the other thread) but I tore mine playing and actually kept playing for another series or two. Typically with an ACL you get a lot of immediate swelling and the pain subsides quickly. If you don't let trainers know what's going on you could conceivably continue playing as long as you could stand the awkwardness of your leg buckling on you. For someone who has as much bulk as he does, it's possible they couldn't confirm the injury doing standard on-field diagnostic tests. Might take an MRI to definitely determine what happened.

But it's absolutely possible to walk off the field under your own power if you can stand it. After a few minutes, it doesn't "hurt" as much as one might imagine. I can't describe it, but ligament tears don't lend the same sensation as breaking a bone, pulling/tearing a muscle, etc. Once an ACL/MCL tear balloons up, it doesn't feel that bad. That's one reason a lot of times guys look so disgusted on the sidelines when a trainer tests them and lets them know that it seems torn. You go from thinking it's not a serious injury to realizing your season is over in a few seconds.

I think that was Dr. Cain that came up and talked to Saban near the end of the game(TV camers caught it).I'm sure Dr.Cain was telling him that he felt like it was an ACL tear.It looked like Dr. Cain shook Saban's hand before he told him the news.
