  • I absolutely do not think that we could beat an NFL team or even keep it close, but Dan is currently talking to vegas insiders to figure out a line and if the Tide would be favored against any of the bottom tier NFL teams. Gotta love the fact that a national radio host is even asking this question. Also, had Spurrier on there and he thought we would be favored against a few of them.

  • I dont think we would be favored against any of them, but i think if you picked the worst the league has to offer and we played them a few times we would beat them once. I know it sounds crazy, but we have NFL talent at every position and we have NFL backups at thos positions too. If we were in the league we would be the worst team in the league, but give us a 16 game schedule and im sorry but we would not lose them all.

I always hate those arguments.. NFL teams are full of NFL talent and Draft picks.. Only a certain few of our players will get drafted through the years. Any NFL team would wipe the deck with the best team in the nation every year. Now if you put all the best players from the nation on 1 team that would be a different story.

This isnt true. you think every player on every roster was drafted? not by a long shot. The crappiest teams in the league are crappy because their NFL TALENT isnt really NFL talent. Theyre full of players aquired in free agency and bad trades, and some draft busts. Thats why theyre so bad.

  • It is a funny idea. But i think the closest line would be KC -65

Not even close. The lines would be Jacksonville -24 and Cleveland -24 according to RJ Bell.

  • The thing is our kids are 18-21 years old that will develop even more in the NFL, the NFL has men out there who have been training and are at their physical peek and are developed. Are our players better than they were in Highschool with CNS program? Well thats true with all the guys in the NFL, its not easy to make a team. They are the best of the best in the entire world. Also the schemes are so much more complex. Even guys like Hightower and Upshaw took them some time to understand it, and thats coming from the most NFL like defense in CFB. As far as I'm concerned its not a realistic argument I just really enjoy that other people are talking about it. Shows how well Saban has this train rolling that we aren't talking about if we can beat LSU, Oregon, KSU, ect. They are asking if we can compete with the best players/teams on the planet.

And when is the last time an NFL team has been a 20 point dog?

  • We are absolutely filthy but no way we beat an NFL team.

Maybe 65 is too high and maybe KC isnt the worst team but 24 sounds a little outrageous.

  • I don't think so either, but Bama would match up better than the best college teams in the past because if its line play. If only they could have kept Richardson, Julio, Dareus and the players they have lost, they still would not win.

So the difference would only be a Bama-MS State betting line? Interesting, Bama is closer to an NFL team than above average college teams.

  • I don't think we'd beat an NFL team. But people don't consider that we have a better defensive and offensive scheme than some NFL squads. TEAM play neutralizes talent to some extent.

Our OLine is an NFL quality oline save some pass protection issues at RT. Our defensive schemes would keep a lower tier NFL offense in check - I think.

There's no way Brady Quinn carves up this Bama D. No way.

I think we could play within 2 TDs of KC.

Actually not much of what you said is true. Take a look at the rosters of the bottom 3 teams in the league, KC, CAR, and JAX. There are NFL 1st Rd picks on every one of those teams, and Pro Bowl freaks on each. The speed of the NFL game is just not comparable to the speed of a college game, plain and simple.

  • I completely agree with the idea that no college team could hang with a pro team today, but that clearly wasn't always the case. Until the late 70's, there was annual all-star game between the college all stars and the NFL champion. You would expect that the NFL champion always won by a huge margin, but they didn't. The college all star team was often competitive, even winning a few of the games. Some people will point out that the game was an exhibition, and so you didn't necessarily get the NFL team's best game, but that's always the case in pre-season or all-star games. If the college all -stars could occasionally beat the NFL champions in the 60's and 70's, I don't think it's a stretch to say that the best college team in the 70's could occasionally hang with the worst team NFL team in the 70's.

At any rate, I think it's interesting to look at the results of those all star games and ask three questions:

    1. Has the gap between NFL teams and college teams grown since the 70's?
    2. How much better would a college all star team be than the best single college team in the country in a given year?
    3. How much worse is the worst team in the NFL than the Super Bowl champion?

Frankly, I think the gap between the Super Bowl champion and the worst team in the league is greater than the gap between the best college team and a college all star team. In other words, I think that in the 70's, a great college team could definitely have played competitively with the worst NFL teams. Those all star games prove that. The reason Alabama couldn't hang with the Kansas City is because of just how developed NFL players are these days. The gap between NFL players and college players has grown exponentially since the 70's.

  • A more interesting debtate: Could last year's Kentucky team have beaten the Bobcats? I say yes. But physical development and maturity is not nearly as big of a deal in the NBA, as evidenced by the success of some of the High School stars who go straight to the NBA.

  • They are trying to distract us, distract us from becoming a dynasty. If we humble LSU, the writting is on the wall; if we humble the 5 after that, the proof will be in the pudding.

CFB and the media is terrified of what Alabama is apparently becoming.

This is a misconception with the modern day college game. That's why every year we see rookie QBs and WRs shining.

If Trent can leave Alabama and have a 122 yard game against the Chargers with his Oline, and RGIII and Luck can show up and start bombing away at NFL defenses, then I think the gap is smaller than some think.

We have three current OL who will be starters the day they sign an NFL contract. We have an NFL caliber QB, and 3 NFL caliber RBs (though they need to come along in pass protection). The only place I see us lacking in terms of an NFL offense is at the WR spot and maybe an elite hybrid TE like so many employ these days.

On defense, our scheme certainly closes some of the talent gap. But I do think we are deficient at DL when compared to NFL rosters.

Alabama faced essentially an NFL defense in the title game last year and did pretty well. I maintain the worst NFL team wouldn't blow us off the field.

Not sure what that has to do with anything, but a number of teams were 20+ pt dogs to New England a few years back when they ran the table until losing to NYG in the Superbowl.

Sorry but that logic doesn't hold up. Individual stars putting up good stats as rookies has very little to do with what a full team would do.

True freshmen come into college and play well right away, that doesn't mean the gap between HS and college isn't that big.

It's true that there are plenty of guys in college right now that could do well in the NFL this Sunday. Several play for Bama. Maybe 5 or 6, but the gap between Bama and a NFL team is still so huge Evel Kneivel couldnt jump it.

yes, there are NFL first rounders on those squads, but look at our roster, its littered with first rounders, possibly 5 this year, and countless more in the two deep. im not saying we would beat KC or carolina in a series, but we could match up and beat them 1 or 2 out of 10. We have guys like Landon Colins and Denzel Deval sitting the bench (not starting is what i mean) and our backup running back could get significant playing time for a ton of NFL teams. If you really think about the level of talent Saban has put together here, its not that far fetched to think we could play with a lower tear team.

    Shane8773

  • This idea is ridiculous...We would get blown out by every NFL team...We are talking about grown men in the NFL that know everything there is to know about the intricacies of the game. I think on our best day and KC's worst day we lose by 20.
