This idea is ridiculous...We would get blown out by every NFL team...We are talking about grown men in the NFL that know everything there is to know about the intricacies of the game. I think on our best day and KC's worst day we lose by 20.

you think cam newton knows every little intricacy of the game? you think every NFL player would be some kinda all star in college? thats just false, those teams fill gaps with less talented players just like college teams do as well.

    Shane8773

  • I just don't think some of you understand just how good NFL guys are...Sure we are dominant in college but If you were to ask any guy that has played at both levels they will tell you that it wouldn't even be fair. Alabama would be the only team that could even be competitive for a quarter or so. Too much size, speed, and smarts plus these guys have the ability to put a lot more time into their trade than our guys do.

Cam Newton took what should have been a 7-5 team from down 24-0 in the first half and beat Alabama. Carolina would absolutely destroy Alabama and its stupid that I even have to state that fact.

so you think we played our absolute best half of football that game and Cam Newton magically brought his team back? or did you completley forget that we dominated Cam and that football team to get that lead and we GAVE them that game. If youve watched him at all this year it if very clear that he is an outstanding athlete that doesnt have the mentality to compete long term in the NFL. Vince young 2.0

  • Guys we couldn't sniff the armpits of any NFL team...there's really no argument. This is all an attempt at distraction, nothing will convince me otherwise.

That isn't the point. We're not debating Cam's NFL performance. You put the best college player we've seen in a long time on the field with NFL OL, RB, Steve Smith, etc and then put an NFL defense on the field....and we get absolutely murdered. This is a stupid, stupid argument. We couldn't play with any NFL team.

Now, Auburn losing to Hoover is what we should be discussing (g).

did you just come in here to talk about sniffing armpits?

  • I've been on the sidelines multiple times in college and NFL games and the distance between the two from a size, strength, and athleticism perspective, top to bottom, is an abyss.

If its not the point then why did the guy try to use it as a point to prove that we would get killed by an NFL team? like ive said in this thread....i dont think we are better than any NFL squad, just that we wouldnt get killed by every one of them, and if we played our best we could possibly win a game in 10 or so.

This isnt true. you think every player on every roster was drafted? not by a long shot. The crappiest teams in the league are crappy because their NFL TALENT isnt really NFL talent. Theyre full of players aquired in free agency and bad trades, and some draft busts. Thats why theyre so bad.

...and half the draft picks are busts. The point is, of our 85 guys, say half (that number is WAAAAAYYYYY too high) will play at all in the league. NOW, add in that none of em have NFL experience and we'd get beat by 20 points by any NFL team....

Look at it this way--last year, Trent was the best RB in the country. He's been so-so in his rookie year. Rolando was he best MLB in the country...so-so for the Raiders. Ingram has had trouble....on and on. The NFL is just a different animal.

I love our team. We're the best college team in the country. And the Kansas City Chiefs would beat us by at least 20 on a neutral field.

I always hate those arguments.. NFL teams are full of NFL talent and Draft picks.. Only a certain few of our players will get drafted through the years. Any NFL team would wipe the deck with the best team in the nation every year. Now if you put all the best players from the nation on 1 team that would be a different story.

Obviously this is a rhetorical question. The real issue is are we talking about THIS current Alabama team, or this current Alabama roster when they're all draft-eligible? It's two different questions, IMO. If we're talking this particular team - no - they couldn't hang with an NFL roster.

Depth and age/experience (at the moment) would be our biggest problem, but lining up 1-55 against an NFL team isn't as outlandish as you think, if you're asking about long-term talent.

    Think about it:

    OL:
CyKo, B. Jones, Warmack and Fluker will all most certainly be drafted. Steen may or may not be, but it's almost a certainty that he will be picked up as a FA at worst.

    RB:
We don't have a franchise NFL RB on the team right now because Yeldon and Drake have to mature before they can even be in the discussion, and Lacy's measurables and speed don't lend themselves to that of a No. 1 NFL back. But this is still a group that could gain minor yardage against an NFL defense.

    QB:
AJ will be drafted and if he were in the NFL today, you could make a case that in the right situation he wouldn't be the worst starter in the league. You tellin' me he couldn't beat out or at least contend for PT against guys like R. Wilson, Skelton, R. Fitzpatrick, M. Sanchez, Gabbert, etc?

    TE:
Williams is a great college TE but he's not a gamebreaker like you need at the pro level. He's not in the class of a J Graham, Gates, Gonzalez, or even others like H. Miller, J. Gresham, Finley, etc. This is clearly an area where we don't have a standout NFL prospect right now.

    WR:
Again, in time guys like Coop, Bell, White (when healthy), etc. may prove to be NFL-level players. But they'd be shut down by NFL corners right now.

    DL:
We would hold our own with Williams, Square, Stinson, Dial, etc. The major issue is depth because we have Pettway, Lake, etc. getting decent minutes and their youth means they'd get steamrolled by an NFL OL.

    LB:
Mosley and Nico are NFL ready and Depriest, Hubbard, etc. will get drafted in all likelihood.

    DB:
Milliner and Lester will both be high draft picks (1-3 rounds) this year. HaHa and Collins will also both be drafted down the road but aren't NFL ready right now. Vinnie may be a FA.

4-5 OL's off this team will be drafted.
2 RBs will be drafted or sign as FAs.
4 WRs will be drafted or sign as FAs.
1 TE will sign as an FA or may go in a late round
4-5 DLs will likely be drafted at some point off this team, if not more
4-5 LBs will be drafted or sign as FAs
4 DBs for certain will be drafted or sign, and I'm not even including guys like Geno, E. Williams (as a WR or DB), etc.

You're looking at probably no fewer than 25-30 eventual NFL players compared to 55 players on an NFL roster that are certain to make a team because they're already on it. The starting 22 stacks up, but we're only halfway there.

all three of those players are on teams with no suporting cast....they were the best in college, and could have been the best in the NFL had they had a team around them

  • Lets try this on for size...
Pick any team in the NFL and I'll give you three players on O and three on D for that team that would absolutely exploit areas on our offense and defense.
I'm sure the others trying to point out the difference between the NFL and Alabama would enjoy this as well.

Sorry but that logic doesn't hold up. Individual stars putting up good stats as rookies has very little to do with what a full team would do.

True freshmen come into college and play well right away, that doesn't mean the gap between HS and college isn't that big.

It's true that there are plenty of guys in college right now that could do well in the NFL this Sunday. Several play for Bama. Maybe 5 or 6, but the gap between Bama and a NFL team is still so huge Evel Kneivel couldnt jump it.

I think for the normal college team, yes. But Alabama in terms of talent and scheme are the exception, not the rule.

All of our top drafted talent from last year is starting, or would start if not for injury. For guys perform on the highest level in the SEC, the adjustment to the NFL isn't nearly that big.

    Kansas City.

Don't say Jamaal Charles or we'll fight. That guy's on my fantasy team...he wouldn't dominate Bama.

  • Think of it not only in terms of how Alabama would do against an NFL team, but also under the microscope of how NFL teams would do against competition Alabama has already played this year.

Think a bad NFL would beat Ole Miss by more than 19 points? More like 40 or 50? 60?

Again - this isn't to disparage our team. They're the best in college football. They've been dominant, but not as dominant as NFL teams would be against the same opponents.

A more interesting debtate: Could last year's Kentucky team have beaten the Bobcats? I say yes. But physical development and maturity is not nearly as big of a deal in the NBA, as evidenced by the success of some of the High School stars who go straight to the NBA.

I don't think so, but agree that would be closer and they would have a shot.

Not getting into exact players but looking at the names they have available on D along with dept, it would be tough to score with any consistency against them or any other NFL team.

you picked our worst game of the season lol.

  • The problem with us playing an NFL team is they practice full time (40+hours a week) and we're only allowed 17hrs. Also, we may have as much talent as some of the bottom dwellers but its younger less experienced talent. Their technique is going to be better and more polished than ours. Its really a silly concept. Now if we got to keep our last 5 years of draftees and got to practice full time for a year, then we'd probably have a shot at beating several of them.
