Doesn't it feel good to be done with the drama?

  • Now that RN and RF have made their decisions to make their careers a little more difficult, we can concentrate on the players that can't wait to wear crimson and compete for championships during their college careers. I actually feel like we got a pretty good deal out of this. While Auburn gained a LB with a torn hammy, who was influenced to join their team by a prospect that has been arrested twice this month, Bama now has one more spot, or "opportunity" as Coach Saban says, for a young man to come in and be a part of greatness. Reuben's a great player, but while he is running around trying to do everything for that poor defense, we will be putting on a show and making their a$$ quit. Cheer up everybody, this is ALA-BAMA football we are talking about! ROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOLLLLLLLLLLLLLL.........

  • No it sucks. RF is a stud prospect and RN is one of the best prospects I have seen. There was drama with Trent Richardson, Dre Kirkpatrick and a ton of great players for UA. I would rather go through the drama and actually sign them.

  • There was no where near the drama with those guys as there has been with RN and RF...and there was a huge difference in those guys....they wanted to play for us.

I agree with you, to a point. When we signed Dre and Trent in 09, we needed them more than they needed us. Wwe had put together a stellar class the year before, but had no depth behind it. Now, not so much. We brought in several damn good linebackers last year so we don't need RF necessarily. Don't get me wrong, its going to suck watching him turn into an All American at AU, but I definitely agree with the OP and I'm very glad to be rid of the drama. I also think there's still a strong possibility that he still signs with us in Feb. Now let AU and their fans worry about what he's going to do. Let them worry about him flipping to UGA with his boy Trigga Tray. I honestly don't see Tray flipping from UGA to AU, but I could definitely see RF flipping from AU to UGA.

We're as deep and probably deeper than any program in the country, especially at linebacker. I can't blame a kid for choosing to go where he'll be the best player on the team from the day he steps on campus. Here, he wouldn't even be the best at his position (yet). I do hate that it went down like it did with the ceremony and the TJY statement situation, but I wish him well, except when he plays us.

Good luck to AU in holding on to him, because he clearly doesn't know what he wants yet and will continue to be torn between where he thinks he should go, where his family thinks he should go, and where his friends think he should go. He's their problem now, not ours. We've got a handful of quality prospects to take his spot, and if Thomas or Walker commits, they could have just as high of a ceiling as RF with the way our staff will develop their talent.

Spot on...we do have an entire football season to play, and anything could happen. I guess i just got tired of seeing so many threads about RN and RF on our boards. All of the "I'm 100% to ____" then contradicting that less than a week later with some other comment. Like you said, we have plenty to keep us competing for championships for the next 4-5 years. Our class is not dependant on one player. If you looked at the Auburn message boards at 2:15 today, you would think they had won their 3rd* NC. Just shows the difference in where our programs are right now.

  • Foster is a heck of a "PROSPECT"for sure... He has not played a down of college football yet, so lets reserve judgment on his greatness, until its proven in the SEC. I don't think he walks into Bama and starts from day one! It takes a lot of smarts to play in our middle.. and frankly, I don't think he is the sharpest tool in the shed, so to speak. TMO.. Good luck to him...

    yeah.

We sure missed Keenan Allen this year. We coulda won the title with him. Oh well, we won it without him.

    Relax.

BTW, You need to go back and pick 2 other players to use as examples. Because Trent and Dre never swayed. Dre was committed almost a year before signing day. Trent committed early. Sure, they were pursued, but that's every top recruit. No flame.

  • The point was not that we need freak out as some interpretted it saying silly things like "relax". The point was actually quite the opposite. We shouldn't worry about this, we sign the best class in the country every year. However, we shouldnt let our emotional insecurity run wild where we tell ourselves it's a happy thing to miss on top prospects to be done with the drama. First thats all bullshit and eveybody on here knows it and Second we have to take less personally where we can be upset about losing top prospects without freaking or pretending it's a good thing.

To act like this is a good thing simply to be done with the drama is just stupid and I promise you the staff doesn't see it that way.

The RF and RN drama is nothing compared to Trent's and Dre's recruitment (notice I used the word "drama" versus "recruitment"). I don't remember Trent or Dre demanding that Bama take any of their highschool teammates or Trent and Dre taking to twitter teasing about going to this school and that school. When RF initially committed he seemed like a humble kid who wanted to come to Bama and work hard to improve himself. Over the course of time he transformed into this attention getter who takes to twitter at a moment's notice. He needed to be a leader for this class and from my point of view he wasnt' doing that. RF, see Eddie Williams, Landon Collins, and Geno Smith on how to do it buddy. Players that left the drama behind them and became leaders in their own right. Eddie who was quiet, but never wavered. Landon who gave himself enough time to decide near signing day and never wavered once his decision was made. Geno, who was a bit of a twitter king, but only promoted Bama once he posted messages. Never sending mixed messages and only trying to improve his class.

    Attitude reflects ledership, RF!

I normally agree with you, but what you've said in this thread is just silly too. Especially comparing the recruitment of
Trent and Dre to the fiasco of RN and RF. While Saban will continue recruiting Reuben, I doubt he or the staff are overly concerned about
what happened other than their disdain for AU increasing for using the poor kid.

Disagree. Trent did visit Florida and LSU regularly while he was committed and even had another commitment ceremony in front of his school with hats to say he was going to the same school he had committed to six months ago. People on here freaked out with "I wish he would just be leader" and blah blah blah. If you see that as a lot less drama then RJ or RN then fine but I think you are just remembering it differently being the other two are more recent. Here are some other examples, Brent Calloway (I am not going to waste time typing out the details of this ridiculous circus), Cyrus K (same comment), Kenny Bell signed with Alabama after being committed to LSU for a year...there are tons of other examples.

I think the idea that the staff is unconcerned spending a ton of time and energy recruiting and developing a relationship with a top prospect and his family only to have that kid go to an instate rival is insane. Even if you tell yourself that, you don't really believe it? Nobody is that stupid. Of course they are concerned, they are furious about and if they can think of a way to get the kid back they will.
